I just discovered my local Library has CDs you can borrow
My music collection is about to EXPLODE in size.

Haven't used a library in ages but only because I've never lived so close to one like I do now. I have a tendency to forget to return books so it's nice to be so closeby that I can just walk over, drop it off in like 10 minutes.

My first 3 CDs I borrowed were Bob Dylan, Evansescence and Sonic Youth. Sure, I might not find the current release but might also discover a few new groups.

They are also looking for donations so I might give them some of the CDs I rarely use anymore.

4. I renewed my appreciation of Led Zep because of that. Really.
For years I was too much of a music snob to like Led Zep and I never bothered owning any of their stuff on CD. One day I saw a copy of the BBC Sessions disc. I picked it up on a whim.

It was a revelation. Once upon a time they were the best fucking band on the planet. I had just forgotten.

The things you learn at the library.

5. Libraries Rock!
If you have trouble remembering to return books, check with your libary - mine will set you up to get a reminder email 3 days before they are due back. I can also check their holdings on-line and reserve a book if it's checked out, then get an email telling me when it's in.

I don't think I'll ever buy a book again.

I'll still buy books and CDs but I'll be a bit more choosy

And with this move - I plan on donating a ton of old CDs and Books.

7. I love the reserve a book service
They limit us here in Sarasota because they cut county services, but it's still worth it.

9. i remember when i was a freshman in high school (1984)
the public liberry had vinyl records you could check out. i was getting into david bowie at the time and was able to get the bulk of his catalog (at the time) from the library and record them to audio tape.

i'd arrange the speakers to allow my head to fit in the middle of them and lay down on the floor while high on grass and listen to this strange music that spoke directly to me.

16. all my bowie came from this used record store over in New Cumberland PA
I have like 18 of his albums and I think "Let's Dance" is the only one I bought brand new.

Which album spoke the most to you? Mine was "Hunky Dory" and hell, didn't need no grass to hear the message

10. A lot of libraries also have movies too.
I kept borrowing Seven Samurai from my school library until I finally managed to buy my own copy. :)

13. If you can find one that the riff raff haven't scratched to fuck so much it won't play
then good for you!

The library can be a great source of music.

Sadly, at my library, CDs and DVDs have about a 1 in 5 rate of actually being playable all the way through due to the inability of the majority of mouth-breathers to take them out of the case and put them back in without, it appears, taking sandpaper to them.

20. I need libraries like air
Edited on Mon Oct-15-07 10:37 AM by bikebloke
I discovered the public library when I finished school. There I was spending money on books I'd read but once - and a voracious reader at that. Libraries have saved me money and space.

My library also has CD's and DVD's. And if you're in Arlington County, Va, they offer Rosetta Stone language courses online. I'd been interested, but the CD's were too dear for my budget.

Of course, communistical libraries are using funds that could otherwise be deposited in the offshore accounts of the wealthy. Shame on us.;-)

21. LynneSin's Ric Romero moment!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ric_Romero

In all fariness, a lot of libraries don't go out of there way to promote the cd collection. My local library keeps them in an out of the way room on the second floor, well away from the main stacks.
