Anyone know the deal with "Live Hotmail"?
Edited on Sat Oct-13-07 04:55 PM by abernste
I just tried signing in to my Hotmail account, and it created a "Live Hotmail" account for me. This all seems fine and well, but all of my old messages are gone? Any help? I can't find any information by searching MSN or even on Google!

1. Bumping this in the hope that someone responds.
I'm a bit mystified by Live Hotmail myself...

2. No, and I thought sex threads weren't allowed?
:P

No, but seriously, I know what you're talking about. It's just more Microsoft BS. And it really sucks, it looks a little better, but it still sucks!

4. I don't have the same problem.
Thankfully all my messages made the move. But the layout pisses me off so much. 20 messages per screen with no way to change it, display defaults to the same thing every time? Screw that noise, if I could have plain jane black and white text I would be happy, so long as I could read my email the way I wanted to read it. Windows live pisses me off. A lot.

:P

Look for the message (?) that says, "revert to usual e-mail"

or "I don't want the BETA VERSION!"

I do not use the "new" hotmail but I do use hotmail. ;)

7. What if I accidentally accepted the switch?
Are all of my messages gone forever?

8. Ok...maybe I was wrong.....

I saw a thing a few weeks ago about 'Live Hotmail' and to try it.

They must have switched everyone over since I was there last time.

But I just went there and I'm getting the same thing you're getting.

I'm at a very different sign in screen and it's saying Click a Windows Live ID to sign in

Apparently they've removed the option to be able to choose.

I guess that's the price we pay for it being free!

Now it won't let me in without that Security Certificate... getting in now. Gheesh!!

Maybe this will stop all the spam??

I'm trying to find a solution to your missing e-mail. Hang on! ;)

9. I see what you did!!!
Go to www.hotmail.com again and sign in with your old e-mail and password!!

That's why you can't see any e-mail because you're in a NEW ACCOUNT!!!

I just got in and all my e-mail is still there.

From the Windows Live FAQ's

Q: You can't save multiple Windows Live ID credentials on a sign-in page

A: You can save multiple Windows Live ID credentials and passwords on the sign-in page for quick and easy access to Windows Live. However, multiple Windows Live ID credentials don't appear if you're looking at an MSN sign-in page or the sign-in page for another member site that requires a Windows Live ID. Multiple Windows Live ID credentials appear only on Windows Live sites and services. However, if you are looking at a Windows Live site, and the multiple user function (A function on the Windows Live sign-in page that allows you to store your Windows Live ID with a personalized icon for quick and easy access to Windows Live.) isn't working, the problem may be one of the following:

A required client component isn't installed on your computer

To get the required components, install Windows Live Toolbar or Windows Live Messenger. If you have installed the required client component but you still can't see multiple Windows Live ID credentials, follow these steps:

1. In Microsoft Windows, open Control Panel, click Add or Remove Programs, and then
verify that Windows Live Sign-in Assistant is in the Currently installed programs list.

2. In Internet Explorer, open the Tools menu, and then click Manage Add-ons.

3. In the Show list, click Add-ons currently loaded in Internet Explorer.

4. Click Windows Live Sign-in Assistant, and then click Enabled in the Settings area.

5. Click OK.

Windows Internet Explorer is running in high security mode on a Microsoft Windows Server 2003-based computer

1. On the Start menu, point to Control Panel, and then click Internet Options.
2. On the Security tab, click Trusted Sites, and then click Sites.
3. Clear the Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone check box.
4. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type http://*.live.com, and then click Add.
5. In the Add this Web site to the zone box, type https://*.live.com, and then click Add.
6. Click OK, and then click OK again.

Note

Multiple Windows Live ID credentials only appear if your browser is Internet Explorer 6 or later.
To get the latest version of Internet Explorer, visit the Internet Explorer website.

I just went to my account and clicked Help! and then I went to Hotmail.
My account looks fine. ;)

I hope the above helps. But I think you just need
to go back and sign in with your previous log in ID.

11. I think so . . .
. . . although I can't say that I'm great about opening every message that comes from the Hotmail administrators. I guess there's a chance that I didn't comply with the rule that you have to log in every 30 days, but I think that I did. In any event, I logged off and tried to log back on and my messages are still gone.

I found a place where I can send a message to the support team, so hopefully I'll know soon.

THANKS!

12. I HATE Hotmail!
It will delete your entire account including email and addresses if you happen to go inactive for 30 days. A Yahoo account will NOT do that to you. I'd seriously consider switching and avoid the hassle.
