Does anyone here care about the Australain Open Women's Final
being played right now?

Two Belgians, and I think it's going to be like that for a while in most major tournaments.

I think Serena is in for a big surprise when she comes back--missing playing competitively for so long is a BIG hindrance. Venus found that out a few days ago.

There's really no one else in the game who can seriously challenge Clisters or Henin-Hardenne. Mauresemo can keep up, but not consistently. Jennifer Capriati easily is a better player than either of them, but her head is once again in whacko shape.

3-2, first set, Henin-Hardenne.

4. Yeah, Chris v Martina was the greatest! I started losing interest
after Chris retired. Monica made it interesting for a while, but that damn Kraut stabbed her, and we had to suffer through Steffi Graf, who won far too many tournaments ONLY because Monica was out.

Not much interest in the two playing now--phenomenal players, but they don't have the spark.

2. I kind of like
Justine Henin. I don't follow any tennis - or sport - ardently, but watched her play someone a couple years back, and rooted for her. She was the underdog then. Can't remember who she was playing.

I guess she got married and added Hardenne to her name?

5. I love Henin-Hardenne
she has such a great game, like Roger Federrer. She has all the shots and she's very tough mentally. ILOVE to watch her hammer that backhand. Good thing is that both of them know how to volley; just wish they'd do it more.

I have never even liked Venus or Serena's game--I guess I'm too traditional in that way, as I perfer shotmaking to power--but I hope Serena comes back strong. But Venus can retire now, for all I care.

I disagree about Jennifer C. She had a good year a few years ago, but she's nothing compared to either H-H or Clijsters (who has a detestable boyfriend).

6. You obviously didn't see the US Open women's semi-final...
Jennifer was clearly superior physically and all around, but she collapsed mentally. Her game is much better than their's--she just doens't have what it takes mentally.

9. Part of the "game" is mental
and Jennifer can undoubtedly play sets of near-perfect tennis. But it's consistency and mental acuity. (I did, in fact, see the match, though)

10. My origina; post alluded to her mental capacity...
...so we're mincing words.

Anyway, I'm really starting to dislike Henin-Hardenne--another classless performance when she questions calls to make them go in her favor. Play the call! Borders on cheating.

8. I think that Capriotti's comeback a couple of years ago was the GREATEST..
...sports comeback ever. Seriously, her French Open win was truly inspirational. The intense shit that she was subjected to as a 14 year old was wilting.

She's always been a natural talent, I only hope she can get her head back together one last time very soon.

11. True, but time is catching up with her...she sat this one out because
of injuries. She's reached an age where she'll get injuries more and more, so she doesn't have that many chances yet.

12. I care about all the finals
I watched this one.

There have been some bogus line calls all through this tournament. Too bad that overrule happened last night.

I'm looking forward to a more competitive season this year (fewer Williams-Williams finals.) It's looking good so far.

13. My fear is that it'll be just Kim-Justine all year...
...and Henin-Hardenne will always win. I just wish Kim would win one, and get it over with. Not a fan of either, but she deserves one.

Even if Serena comes back strong, I think Venus is past her prime, and won't make it to many--if any--finals.

14. Somebody tell me
why I don't like Kim Clijsters. I can't stand her, but I don't know why. She never did anything to me. Maybe it's because she's hooked up with that Lleroy Hewitt (I know what his name is, I just like to call him Lleroy).

I didn't watch much of the match. It was on past my bedtime. I was glad to see Henin-Hardenne won.

Can't wait for Serena to come back. I love Serena.

Every time I see them I think that. :)

17. Its the reason why the Williams sister became dominate in the first place
When the Willams' streak started, the premiere women in the game were all either out do to injury or recovering from them. The are great players, but if Davenport et al were at their peak, they wouldn't have been nearly as dominant.

18. I think you can say that about Martina Hingis, too...
...she came in at a weak time in the women's game. She's not a powerful or strong player, but very tough mentally, and was able to dominate. But now the other women have passed her out--she can't compete at the level the women are at now.

As for the Williams sisters, they've been dominant for the last couple years, but compare that to Chris or Martina's lenghty reigns, and you really put it into perspective.
