Cancer...fuck you!

I have mentioned before that my father has lung cancer -- Stage IV. He was diagnosed last September and was given two years to live. My sister called me and told me that my father was down in the dumps as it has been one year since his diagnosis and now he feels that his life is just about over. I wish that there was something I could do for him to make him feel better -- he is such an amazing person and this really, really sucks.

Not only that, but the situation with OMC really hit home with me and he and his family have been on my mind, also. I was talking with a friend of mine the other day and it seems that there is no escaping Cancer -- sooner or later, every family goes through dealing with it in one way or another.
I had a cancer scare last year with my eye (choroidal melanoma) and my mother-in-law was treated for skin cancer.

Life just isn't fair, sometimes...

1. no, life is not fair....
I have those days myself sometimes. They say it's normal. I try to get on with what's left of my life the best I can. Sometimes it's really a joy and sometimes I can only put one foot in front of the other.

As far as feeling better - it's really up to him, there's not much you can do except be there for him if he needs you.

3. My friend's sister has the best T-shirt:
"Hey, cancer! You messed with the wrong bitch!" She is responding well to chemo, and things are looking much better than last winter.

12. Going thru chemo.
It's rough at times. She has had a couple of bone marrow tests one of which left her with an infection in her hip bone. 6 weeks worth of IV antibiotics later she is better. They will treat her for a total of 2 years and two months. The cure rate is high for her type of leukemia.

9. That sucks.
You might want to suggest to your dad that he talk to his doctor about getting on an anti-depressant. My mom is going through hell right now with a chronic illness she has, and while she is a strong woman, it's wearing her down. One of my sisters told me the other day that she is going to talk to her doc about starting an anti-depressant because she is starting to feel hopeless.

I know that a lot of people, particularly men, see taking anti-depressants as a sign of weakness, but suggest it anyway. He may respond positively to the idea.

10. I'm a survivor of cancer myself
Thyroid cancer. It is nowhere near as serious as lung cancer but attitude does help so, while I certainly understand why he feels like he does, the life expectancy is just an average. He certainly can live past that time line. It is not a limit and a positive helps fight this crap! Is he undergoing any treatment?

13. He is undergoing his second round of chemo right now.
He is a tough, stubborn SOB and is in great shape...the chemo kicks his ass but he never complains.

It is strange to see him down as it is something that we aren't used to seeing.

11. FUCK CANCER
Had a breast cancer scare last year, that turned out to be nothing. Waiting for those biopsy results was one of the scariest times in my life.

CANCER FUCKING BLOWS.

14. Yeah, fuck you cancer!
I think you're right, there's no escaping it. My mom hid hers from us for the longest time when we were younger... she had it come back not too long ago and told us about it that time.
*sigh*
