6-Year-Old Boy Tries To Drive To Lunch Alone
Child Uninjured After Car Crashes In Broomfield

Kathy Walsh
Reporting

(CBS4) BROOMFIELD, Colo. A 6-year-old boy crashed his grandmother's car in Broomfield Tuesday morning while attempting to drive down the street for lunch, police said.

The boy's mother was reportedly sick and his father was at work. He got hungry, police said, and grabbed his car seat and the keys to his grandmother's car at about 8:30 a.m.

The boy somehow started the vehicle and was able to drive it in reverse about 80 feet before coming to a stop.

He went 47 feet before hitting a curb, police said, and then kept going another 29 feet before hitting an electrical box. The crash caused a small power outage in the neighborhood near 120th Avenue and Greenway Drive.

The boy was not injured.

"The driver's door flew open and that kid flew out and he ran like his pants were on fire," neighbor Suzaine Warren said.

2. It seems odd to me that a 6-y.o. would think that the normal response to hunger
is to go out to eat - why wouldn't he just look in the fridge? Don't people cook at home anymore?

6. My son climbed the fence and rolled our Toyota truck out of the driveway when he was 2.
He was playing on the patio and I was right inside at the kitchen sink. Can't take your eyes off those little people for a minute.

That was 20 years ago, and as far as I know, commandeering the truck was his first and last illegal act. He turned out okay, is responsible, employed, and a Democrat.

I will spare any details regarding whether he was breastfed, spanked, homeschooled, or any other potential flamebait topics. Oh, he does love pit bulls.

9. I know of a little kid who...
....was playing in Grandpa's parked LTD and pulled the gear shift out of park. The car rolled forward, the kid bailed out onto the parking strip, and the car proceeded across a busy street and rammed into a building, chipping the plaster. The police came and considered giving the child a ticket. He was four years old.
