Couple says they drowned cat to 'end its suffering'
LAKEWOOD – A couple is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday after they admitted to intentionally drowning their cat.

Michele Eshleman, a teacher in the Jefferson County School District, and her boyfriend, Mark Lewis, each face charges of animal cruelty and animal neglect.

A Lakewood Police report states the couple told officers the cat was sick so they drowned the animal to "end its suffering."

The couple told police they had called several veterinarians to ask about the cost of euthanizing the cat, but they decided they could not afford the procedure.

1. Well, aren't you just the harbinger of cheerful news today?
I guess I shouldn't shoot the messenger because the news is disgusting though.

How sick and cruel is that? It only costs 5 bucks for the vet to put an animal to sleep with a lot less cruelty involved.

2. My apologies
I just think it's important for people to see how common animal cruelty is.

3. I know. I see what you mean.
It is ALL too common. I wasn't trying to be overly snarky, just joking a little. :D :pals:

6. Hopefully, if found guilty, they'll be ordered to not have any more pets.
As should be part of the sentence in every animal cruelty case.
