Do You Have an "Irrational" Fear?
I may have many.

I'm afraid of bugs that don't even exist close to me. Flying cockroaches, wind scorpions, etc.

You?

1. Heights. I am terrified of heights, including....
bridges, balconies, open-back staircases, glass elevators, large plate glass windows, railings, overlooks, etc. I'm not sure if that is an irrational fear or a phobia, though.

17. OMG! Another moth-o-phobe!
My husband thinks I am so silly for being afraid of moths, but I hate those darn things. I do admit that I think it's in part of having one of those overly germ phobic moms and somehow during my childhood I decided that moths are dirty, germ ridden versions of butterflies. Eh, only explanation I can think of.

I'm also afraid of pigeons. Nasty, evil looking buggers!

6. islands...
small little 'dots on the map' islands. Like Put-In-Bay island, which is in the middle of Lake Erie. Creeps me out. Ironically enough, my preferred getaway is to Fiji, which of course is an Island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. Go fig.

8. The traditional alarm clock alarm sound, including variations
Not sure if that counts as "irrational", but hearing an alarm clock type sound, even when awake, sends a sudden jolt of fear through my body. Thankfully I now have a radio alarm clock.

15. My cousin and I were attacked by a rooster when I was 7.
You never look at fowl quite the same way after you've watched your (thankfully) slightly slower cousin get tripped up and pecked mercilessly by a rooster named Jack.

19. Cooking in hot oil
I can't wok anything, or fry. I'm glad I can buy bacon precooked or I'd be so deprived. I can cook an egg, but that's it. My jammies caught on fire when I was cooking as a kid and I'm sure that's why I'm so resistant to even trying it.

21. If you have a microwave, you can cook the bacon there!
All you need is a microwave-proof plate, or container...

Some paper towels for both over and under the bacon...

Cook on high for about one minute per slice!

Delicious, and no frying!

26. Part of being irrational is
that you naturally think all your fears ARE rational, so rationally speaking, I can't answer this question.

29. Well
Edited on Wed Oct-10-07 01:00 AM by bixente
Throughout my teen years, I suffered from agoraphobia; I feel I've moved on from that for the most part, alas I've now been diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder.

To sum up, I care far too much about how others perceive me. I can be anxious for hours because someone responded to me in a slightly lower tone than I would expect from them, even if the words themselves are no big deal. So little for so much.

Cognitive behavioural therapy, here I come!

30. Pickles..
My sister used to chase me around with them and pin me on the ground and shove them in my mouth. The smell now makes me ill and I refuse to eat or touch anything that has come in contact with them. This makes life difficult due to my love of ordering a grilled cheese when I eat out. I tell them I am allergic.

32. Birds - but it's not an irrational fear. Birds are evil. Very evil.
They are horrible, horrible creatures and I don't even like to look at pictures of them. But, the fear is *not* irrational, I tell you! They have beadie little eyes, feathers, claws and necks that can turn to unbelieveable angles. And one of their Clan, a raven, lives on top of the street light in front of our house. He's there taunting me all the time. But irrational - definitely *not*! B-)

And I have *never* seen the movie "The Birds".
