On hold with IRS 10 minutes and counting.
"Our representatives are still helping other customers. Please continue to hold."
more music

I'm the treasurer of a small charitable non-profit org.
We've never had to file a tax return because we have no employees and take in less than $25,000 a year.

Now I get a notice that we MAY have to file some kind of return due to recent changes in the tax law. But if I read it right, no we don't.
I'm a pretty smart guy, but this is confusing as hell.

There's a number to call if you have any questions.
15 minutes and still holding.

7. A suggestion - call after business hours
Someone will be there...seriously.

A couple of years ago I had a tax question (was doing taxes at 1:00 AM CST) and called them, someone answered right away. Of course, I was surprised so I said, "Good grief, do you people EVER sleep?"

IRS tele-agent was NOT AMUSED by that!

13. Get everything in writing...
...before you decide not to file key documents.

Talk the wrong person, and you could be liable for his/her mistake.

14. Ten minutes?
Ten minutes and you're already complaining?

Wow... try 45+ with the phone company... or our ISP provider... or the insurance company.

Ten minutes? I was on hold for ten minutes with all kinds of poeple at least 70 times a day back when I was in sales and recruiting, and I LIKED it.
