Top 10 albums
To end up on this list, the whole album has to be worth listening to...no filler allowed.

Here are mine.

ACDC Back In Black
Concrete Blonde Bloodletting
Alanis Jagged Little Pill
Dream Theater Images and Words
Rush 2112
Pink Misundaztood
Gaia Consort Gaia Circles
Judas Priest British Steel
Iron Maiden Piece of Mind
Evanescence Fallen

I know I'm going to catch hell for some of these but I can live with that.

10. Excluding live or 'Best of ...' albums
(because they're cheating), mine would be

The Boomtown Rats A Tonic for the Troops
Dire Straits Love Over Gold
Peter Gabriel (third album, aka 'Melting Face')
Genesis The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway
Genesis A Trick of the Tail
Mike Oldfield Tubular Bells
Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon
Pink Floyd Wish You Were Here
Supertramp Crime of the Century
Suzanne Vega Solitude Standing

A narrow window - all made in about 12 years.

Of the OP's list, the only one I have and know is '2112'. Second side is good, but the '2112' piece itself? Takes itself too seriously - anything claiming music is the revolutionary force that will have to be suppressed for fascism to take control is a little OTT, I think. Still, it didn't stop Ben Elton and Queen recycling it as the plot for their awful-sounding musical.

Temple of Low Men - Crowded House
Ghost in the Machine - the Police
Cake - Trashcan Sinatras

31. Always a tough one:
1. New York Dolls- A Hard Night's Day (3rd demos collection)- hotter versions of the best Dolls songs

2. Minutemen- Double Nickels on the Dime- This record will stand forever, 40+ fantastic songs played with energy and conviction.

3. Rolling Stones- Exile on Main Street- Stones! God they were hot in '72 (really dig that unreleased live album from '72)

4. Heartbreakers- LAMF- Chuck Berry riffs played harder/faster/louder- my taste in RnR to a T.

5. Hanoi Rocks- All Those Wasted Years- Live LP featuring many of my fave HR songs.

6. Bob Dylan- Desire- Fave Dylan record

7. Johnny Cash- Live at San Quinton- Love the energy on this live lp.

8. Ted Nugent- Double Live Gonzo- Ted's guitar does it for me- sorry!

9. Nirvana- Nevermind- God, everybody was bummed when this came out- shit we are SOOO screwed!

10. Who am I kidding ALL the other Dolls/Johnny Thunders stuff (they'd really make up the entire top 10, but that's no fun!)

82. I love the classical influences...
My dad says I was introduced to that sort of thing early by a friend of his who was a huge moody blues fan.

I loved Fallen and The Open Door is good, though not quite up the first, imo... I saw Evenescence live at Bumbershoot some years back and was VERY impressed. Amy Lee has a tremendous voice and comes across live just as well as canned.

49. I dunno about a top 10, but I do have my standard line that...
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 03:40 PM by SteppingRazor
if you don't like The Rolling Stones Exile on Main Street, you're an asshole.

So, that'd probably be on there somewhere. ;)

On edit: Oh, and it's a travesty that no one has mentioned London Calling by The Clash.

On double edit: er.... never mind. And props to both kwolf and Starbucks Anarchist. Somehow, I missed not one but two posts.

If someone doesn't like it, they might not be an asshole. But they for sure don't like Rock-n-roll.

(which makes it best album since 1965)...will figure out other 8 later today, but I think Give Em Enough Rope might be in there too...

65. Tough to choose but here's a bunch
Edited on Tue Oct-02-07 07:53 PM by abq e streeter
for starters, no greatest hits, which would include artists ranging from the Beachboys to the Four Tops to Marty Robbins. No live , which would include James Brown Live at the Apollo, Stop Making Sense by Talking Heads, and every Springsteen bootleg I have...Not that much soul either due the best stuff in the Motown/Stax etc. heyday being singles oriented although admittedly Stevie Wonder and Marvin Gaye challenged that successfully; and The Temptations With a lot Of Soul, Wish It Would Rain, and Temptin Temptations stand among the greatest albums---- so after the two I listed in above post, I think the Doors first album for #3... After that, in no order- I could only narrow it down to: Born To Run, The E Street Shuffle, and Darkness... by Bruce...Give em Enough Rope- by the Clash, Talking Heads: Speaking in Tongues, Stones: Sticky Fingers and Out of Our Heads, Elvis C.: My Aim is True, Kid Creole and the Coconuts: Wise Guy, Chris Isaak: Heart Shaped World, Doors: Soft Parade, Carol King: Tapestry, Eagles: Long Run ( definitely a top 10), Counting Crows: August and Everything After, Television: Marquee Moon, Ramones: Rocket to Russia, Rancid: Out Come the Wolves, Grateful Dead: American Beauty, and every Beatles album from Beatles 2nd to Revolver.

51. I didn't include any compilations...
Too easy... But Queen's greatest hits should go up there somewhere if I did. Pastor of Muppets definitely deserves its own place somewhere. So, for that matter, does the black album. IMO

at the end of those choices(a cop out, so to speak)....:) I think the Black album is very good, but Justice/Master...man, brings back memories(mostly good), so I had to throw that on there...the Metallica purists would probably burn me at the stake, since I didn't put, Kill'em all up there..

ETA:to change their, into there.

I really learned to bang my head to Battery. But the Black Album brought a lot of people over who weren't Metallica fans to begin with, without losing the edge that made them what they were.

The New Pornographers - Twin Cinema
Old 97's - Too Far to Care
Elliott Smith - XO

(Also Spoon's Gimme Fiction and Sleater-Kinney's One Beat. I'd have added PJ Harvey's To Bring You My Love but I don't like "Teclo.")

60. It is kind of all over the map..we even have a folk artist who did AMAZING
music in our top albums...but I did not think anyone would have heard of him....John Martyn (Glorious Fool)

I did not even go into the late 80's or past that...I kind of went with "album" as a genre before it moved on to CD, etc.

sheesh....Exile on Main Street...oops...forgot

If I let myself, I could bore the hell out of anyone with incessant music chatter.

For one of my favorite John Martyn tunes:
