Who's your favorite MLB baseball team?
Before I go to bed, I thought I'd take this poll in honor of the playoffs starting. My favorite is the Phillies.

TBS is not going to carry Braves games anymore. :(

Chipper and Andruw were on the World Series team.

4. Why, the 2007 National League Wild Card, of course!
I've loved the Rockies ever since I went to my first game - May 29, 1993 (against the Phillies, no less). I've been to dozens of games at Mile High Stadium and Coors Field, and I've seen every team in the Majors play, except for the Twins (they're visiting Colorado in May of next year, so I'll get them out of the way then). I've seen blowout wins and losses, pitchers' duels, and extra-inning contests.

It hasn't been easy watching the Rockies all the time, but I love them just the same!

72. I thought I had a good one in '03 too, but it was not to be.
Pitcher 3-Finger Brown led us to the 1908 Championship and I figured that having 6-Finger Antonio Alphanseco in '03 made us a lock! Early part of century, pitcher with unusual # of fingers- '03 had to be our year!

Going with the '07 is always a Cub year theory this time. That and the law of averages- which I'm beginning to believe is more of a suggestion than an absolute law.

73. You had a six fingered pitcher?
Wow, didn't know that. I haven't heard of him so I guess the extra finger didn't make him an unstoppable phenom with a wicked splitter or anything, haha.

I'm starting to think that God hates the Cubs. Hey, it's as plausible as anything else! The collapse in '03 really was surreal - I still have a hard time believing it.

75. Yeah Alphonseca had an extra didgit. He stunk as a pitcher
no matter how many fingers he had. 3-Finger Brown supposedly had a wicked curveball because of only having 3 fingers. The only thing wicked about Alphonseca was his abilities at the buffet table. Don't get between him and the food.

I think that the baseball gods hate the Cubs. If you research the 1908 pennant drive you will discover that the way the Cubs won that NL pennant was highly controversial. The 'Merkels Boner' incident is infamous to this day. The Giants deserved that '08 pennant and I don't think that the baseball gods appreciated the underhanded way the Cubs took it that year. (long story short G's had the bases loaded and struck the game-winning hit- chaos ensued as thousands stormed the old Polo Grounds and THE NEXT DAY it was ruled that Merkel hadn't touched 2nd base. The umpire who made that call later worked for the Cubs)

Mark my words, if the Cubs make it to the WS and lose, the media will pull out a new (old) curse- the curse of Merkel's Boner. That damned goat thing happened in '45, but we lost that WS and 6 others between '10 and '45. Think Buffalo Bills and add 3. (Cubs didn't lose 'em all in a row however)

77. That's fascinating, I never knew that about the 08 race
I love learning new bits of tawdry baseball lore :D

Well, two curses seem pretty hard to surmount - you'll need to break the goat curse to GET to the Series, and the Merkel curse to win. That's a tall order :scared:

I will say, though, that if the Cubs do go all the way, I'll keep in mind long-suffering fans like you and some of my family who've suffered for decades, and try to ignore all the fratdouches who will be screaming "woooooooooo" all up and down campus :D

79. For some reason the media hasn't picked up on the Merkel
thing. I mean what is worse, not making it to the WS in 62 years, or losing 7 of 'em without winning one over a period of 32 years?

Obviously I'd rather make it and lose than be sitting at home for 62 years, but my Cubbies seem to avoid the grief attached to having lost 7 WS without winning one. We get our share of grief of course, but rarely is that one mentioned.

If I were you, I'd stay far far away from those fratdouches. And as a former U of Iowa student (50% from Chi 'Burbs) I know exactly what you are talking about. 'I'm from Chicago (er Aurora) and this bumpkin town sucks!' One of my least fave animals for sure. (don't know how I forgot about these people, guess I just didn't know any of 'em personally- totally understand how fratDB and Cub fan could be an ugly combo) Please do rub it in their faces as they deserve it for giving the rest of us fans a bad name.

And if the Cubs win, you have a good plan- just stay away from those DBs!

I used to be a big Orioles fan, but when that little cretin Angelos fired Davey Johnson, I looked elsewhere

I think the Nats will be contender within the next five years.

84. Love the Orioles, hate the owner
Still remember the great Oriole teams of 70's and very good teams in the mid-90's. Sad to lose Wild Bill Hagey this year. I can still hear "the roar from section 34" in old Memorial Stadium.

63. I hope that it's a Cubs/Indians WS so that one of our fanbases
gets their due!

Was cheering hard for you guys vs Florida. Cleveland deserves a winner IMO.

67. Thanks. Ironically, I was pulling for the Cubs this year for the same reason
Cubs/Indians in 2007 -- great story line.

74. Atlanta Braves fan here!!!
Mainly due to the efforts of my wonderul former neighbor (Mr. Wigg) . . . Great childhood memories of going to his house.. sitting chair by chair with him.. drinking one diet coke (That's all they had, and drinking more than one was not allowed) throughout the game....

Watched the Braves win the 95 world series with him . . . he was so happy he bought me that White Atlanta Braves World Series Hat.

92. Well, we have Ichiro for 5 more years...
What we really need is a good strong pitcher! The losing streak they just had was so depressing!

99. We need at least two more strong pitchers, Hernandez
did all right this season, but I think he will improve greatly next year...our batting lineup/defense looks solid to me...just 2 above average starters, and I think we will be all right...

I was so pissed when the M's signed Weaver, I still think his pitching in the playoffs last year was a total fluke...

82. I love the lovable losers
The Tampa Bay Devil Rays. And since I've been in the DFW area for 46 years, I have had to follow the Rangers. They have been a real laugh riot since they got here in 1972.

By the way, to the person who saw Hank Aaron as a Brewer - I saw him at old Arlington stadium in 1975, and he took part in a before game home run hitting contest. Hammering Hank lost. It was pretty much downhill from there for the man I still consider the home run king.

Thankfully, my grandfather took me to one of the 1983 World Series games. Someday, they will be great again.

What can I say? My dad's hometown is East St. Louis. Been a Cards fan since birth. :)

Oh, and now that I have a SO from Michigan, the Tigers are my second favorite team.
