Need urgent help with this song about Jena
First the introduction.
This weekend we are doing a benefit reunion concert for the family of one of the old members who recently passed away. There will be a registration made that may or may not (depending on everything from quality to legal issues) be released.
Mainly for that last reason, I am trying to sneak in a few new songs, including this one about Jena. Problem is, I can't get it to work and the deadline is solid. Plus, for a number of reasons, I really want to do this one.

So in desperation I'm throwing this one in the public domain and why not turn to the artistic minds of DU for help? The foundation is there, it's almost good, but it needs some sleuthing and tweaking to get it up to an acceptable level. Any used contributions will be appropriately credited and rewarded but expected proceeds are still in the red ;). This is primarily for love of the game.

Ok, here it is. It's a simple Southern Rock style rhythm with an R&B bridge (at least, that's the plan). My main problem is with the chorus, which probably should be done from scratch but I can't let it go myself.
There are parts of the verses that don't work too well but that can be fudged if must be. Additional verses are welcome too. I'm missing part of the story and although I deliberately tried not to be too explicit, it feels like there's too much untold.

Oh, as for the time frame. I'm coming back to harvest what you guys came up with on Saturday morning and I'll try to mix and match that into something I can present in the afternoon. Show is in the evening and the result should be on YouTube in the next week or so. No pressure

JENA 6

There’s a dirty little secret that everyone should know
Some are served the chicken, others eating Crow
We may have turned this corner but there’s still a lot of road
And the fuse is always burning until something will explode

Chorus
What's that hanging from this shady tree?
Some counted two while others say three
Bad sense of humor or a triple K salute
Southern trees still seem to bare that old familiar fruit

It’s not a big surprise that love can be tough
In a town that tried to make their Duke the Gov
But it’s hard to believe that even still today
You and I are judged in a different way

Chorus

They went down to Washington, who said: “Call me Herod, please
I don’t see a connection between fire, fights, and trees”
Daryl then said: “Hey, this same shit happened once to me.
Let’s bring in the reverends and the NAACP”
White Willie called for old school southern terrorist acts
The FBI said: “Baby, tell me nothing but the facts.”
And George, who once came running for a girl on life support
Had nothing much to say in the weekly news report

Chorus

If this doesn't seem like much to you, you fail to understand
What happens in the parish happens all over the land
Don’t mean to sound naive; I know that crime won’t grow extinct
But someone please explain to me why punishment is distinct

1. OK...
There’s a dirty little secret that everyone should know
Some are served (the) fried chicken, others (eating) eat Jim Crow
We may have turned this corner, but there’s still a lot of road
And the fuse is always burning until something will explode

Chorus
What's that hanging from this shady tree?
Some counted two while others say three
Bad sense of humor, or a triple K salute?
Southern trees still seem to (bare) bear that old familiar fruit

It’s not a big surprise that love can be tough
In a town that tried to make their Duke the Gov
'Gov' and 'tough' don't work, but I can't figure a way to end the first sentence with 'love'.
But it’s hard (sad?) to believe that even still today
You and I are judged in a (whole?)different way
