1. So you're going to make a really sour, rather poisonous cocktail,
drink it, and then explain how terrible it tastes in a high, squeaky voice? That sounds like a really interesting job.

3. I used to do that....
in a previous life. I was a protein purification biochemist. Sometimes I miss it.

5. it's fun, isn't it?
I have an old Perkin Elmers HPLC and a kick ass fully automated Hewlerd Packard HPLC. The older one is a POS most days, and the software is a bitch, but boy, it must've been cool to work on that stuff back in the day, right?

16. Yeah....
but ya know, I really like the old fashioned column chromatography. I had a 6L sepharose column and a 4L sephacryl column and down the line to the last step -- a 5 mL phenyl sepharose column. Then I got an antibody and made a dinky little column of "Iggy beads" and was able to purify very small amounts of my protein on that.

Sigh... Those were the old days all right. All those hours in a cold room.

7. I order chemicals too as part of my job
I am into recycling and our workplace doesn't have plastic and glass recyling. After the first time that I brought containers home, my husband informed me that I shouldn't do that again. What would people, especially the police, when they see empty chemical containers (with the hazard symbols) in our curb side recycling bin.

8. not to be mean or anything...
...do NOT just throw chemical containers (glass or anything else) into regular recycling--there's a ton of chemicals that must be treated before the containers can be used for reuse again, and there is always the threat of contamination.

I'm tired and a little stressed because one of my paychecks got (surprise!) lost in the mail x(

I found out that cyclohexane is a mild hallucinogenic, per one of the other lab techs. True?
