"Little Buddha"=Big Dissapointment
Edited on Mon Sep-17-07 07:24 PM by bif
I finally saw this movie. What a piece of crap that was. A propaganda film at best. Wish I could have that 2 hours back.

3. Yes, I enjoyed it. Propeganda? Nah.
it is loosely based on the story of Lama Osel, a western (Spanish) boy who is the reincarnation of Lama Yeshe. Lama Yeshe was one of the first Tibetan Lamas to bring Tibetan Buddhism to the West. Bertolucci read his story and it inspired him to make the movie.

2. Yes.
Thought it was accurate showing how the Tibetans pick the next Lama when he is a baby when he picks out the previous lama's bowl from a group of them and such.

Keanu Reeves is boring, yes, but other than that I don't think it was so terrible.

There are several kinds of Buddhism. Over here we know more about Tibetan because of the Dalai Lama but there are also Lesser Vehicle (Theravada)-the original, Greater Vehicle (Mahayana)which is Chinese, Pure Land, Vajrayana, Tantra, and Zen.

Trivia:
Uma Thurman's father was the first Western man ordained as a Tibetan Buddhist monk, and he is a professor of Asian Studies at Columbia. Uma is one of the other names of Shiva's consort, Parvati, so Uma is actually a Hindu name.
