Anyone ROOMBA?
Thinking of getting one. All the pet hair, doncha know? (3 dogs - 2 long- & 1 shorthair, and a shorthaired cat.)

It's driving me crazy and I cannot keep up with it all.

Is it worth it? Is it noisy? Will it drive the dogs/cat crazy? Is it sturdy?

2. sounds like they like 'em pretty well, eh?
I was just hoping for a few "more personal" antecdotes. (Ok - I don't know yall either really, but . . . you know what I mean!)

Thanks for the info. It sounds like it's worth trying at least. Vacuuming every day is a PITA. (Which I don't do of course - but I probably should given the hair issue. It never ends.)

3. my FIL is hopelessly addicted to his Roomba
they've got hardwoods, Berber carpet and two cats, and the thing does a pretty good job of cleaning the hardwoods/low pile stuff. it's not overwhelmingly noisy (it becomes background buzz surprisingly quickly). my IL's cats don't seem to mind too much anymore, but it did freak them out for the first week or so.

4. My friend's chihuahua used to try to battle the Roomba
Then again, chihuahuas tend to be neurotic little dogs.

10. I have a VERY LARGE dog
who could probably swallow it whole. But he tends to be pretty mellow about things most of the time. He'll just get annoyed if it keeps bumping into him and waking him up. lol.

5. Got one as a gift, tried it for a while, now it's sitting in my closet
I have a relatively small house. It's so much easier to just get out the broom.

7. People seem to like them, but my only question is just how durable are they?
Seems like most of these "T.V offer only" products have a tendency to break quite easily or have a relatively short life span. Other than that, I would be willing to give one a try. God knows it would come pretty handy in this apartment..

9. There's not that much to them
to get broken.

The parts that you have to clean (similar to getting the hair out of your hairbrush, all come out and you can run them through a little soapy water if need be. Just be sure to let it dry out completely before putting it back in the roomba.

The roomba itself is very sensitive to bumping into things. It backs away at the slightest touch of something solid. I make sure I pick up any think big before I turn it on.

I'd LOVE to own one but can't afford it right now.

edit: There are new models coming out this fall. There are models especailly for pet hair, heavy duty cleaning (like garages) and Scoobas that clean and mop! The review website has threads with user comments.

edit: Here's a link to the i Robot site (manufacturer of Roombas and other types of robots):
