Another of my father's poems - Goin' To Grandma's
GOIN’ TO GRANDMA’S

(Circa 1960)

We like to go to Grandma’s,
The kids, my wife and I,
For we know we’ll all be welcom’d
With a warmth we can’t deny.

The squeals of anticipation
At the suggestion that we go
Explode in bursts of exultation
When I decide to not say no.

So we all pile into the car,
A-draggin’ coats and things—
There’s no need for countin’ noses,
As each his new treasure brings.

For Grandma must be updated
On each possession and event,
For she rejoices o’er our blessings
And prayed for everything that’s sent.

And how we love the happy spirit
That permeates her domicile,
The antique chairs and everything
Lure us to sit and stay awhile.

And—if we’re ‘specially lucky,
Arriving on the proper day—
Her homemade bread or pie or jam
Add sheer magic to our stay!

Yes, it really WAS like that. I remember it as if it were yesterday.

1. My dear Prisoner_Number_Six!
Oh, this is nice!

It even has an old-fashioned feeling to it...

Thank you...

3. That's a good description
A generation ago, before computers, the internet, and cell phones, such things were more important than they appear to be now. The world was a larger place, and it was a harder place to travel around in.

I believe it was a better time.
