ABC's Stossel: The Media Are Dominated by Leftists

John Stossel, who co-anchors 20/20 with Barbara Walters, has accused mainstream journalists, including those at ABC, his own network, of being leftists who view conservatives with hostility. Appearing at the libertarian Cato Institute to promote his new book, Give Me a Break, Stossel commented, "Where I live in Manhattan and where I work at ABC, people say conservative the way people say child molester." As reported by CNSNews.com, a unit of the conservative Media Research Center, Stossel told the group: "Leftist thinking is just the culture that I live in and the culture the reporters who populate the mainstream media live in." He accused the press of being "filled with hatred for capitalism" and said that in his own case, "Everything I do has to be read by two liberal ABC lawyers and at least two liberal ABC producers." Nevertheless, he added: "ABC, God bless them, they don't always agree with me ... but they let me do most of the things I want to do."

1. Individual reporters are not the issue dumbass.
It's the corporate owners and editors that make the media conservative.

What a dope!

8. He should name these leftist people/groups
bet he can't come up with many names.

I always ask someone who pulls that liberal media crap with me to name them.. They can't - because there aren't too many out there anymore.

AND unbiased does NOT mean leftist.. That also seems to confuse those pinheads.. Unbiased means unbiased, not non-right wing.

f*ckers..

9. Give US a break
Here's an excerpt from, and link to FAIR's excellent article on what a right wing whore John Stossel is.

Extra!, March/April 2003
Give Us a Break

The world according to John Stossel

By Peter Hart

ABC News reporter John Stossel enjoys a special position in broadcast network news: Though not usually often identified as a commentator, Stossel is routinely allowed to use his one-hour primetime specials and his regular "Give Me A Break" features on 20/20 to explicitly promote his personal ideological agenda--from singing the virtues of corporate greed to attacking child labor laws--a perspective that is distinctly different from the generally muted centrism that pervades broadcast TV news.

While there is a long and honorable tradition of U.S. journalists with definite points of view who hoped that their reporting would have a political impact--from Thomas Paine to Ida Tarbell to I.F. Stone--what distinguishes Stossel is his willingness to warp reality to fit his ideological preconceptions. His reports, notable for their one-sided sourcing and rejection of inconvenient facts, are frequently marred assertions from Stossel and his favored guests that are misleading or factually incorrect.

Stossel's errors are often so obvious that one wonders how they could have ended up on the air. In a 20/20 report on medical research (10/11/99), Stossel complained that too much funding was going to AIDS research, claiming that spending on the disease was "25 times more than on Parkinson's, which kills more people."

10. What a bunch of crap!!
Just a couple of years go I heard the same John Stossel put a very critical, and very liberalesque spin on the drug war. He all but came out for the legalization of pot. I realize that this isn't exclusively a liberal issue, but the language he used sounded very liberal.

Here's a link, check it out. Get some popcorn or your fav legal beverage, its 43 min long.

11. William F. Buckley
Founder of the ultra conservative rag, National Review, also favors legalization of mj. I don't think that makes him a liberal though.

12. "people say conservative the way people say child molester"
Wonder why that is, Johnny?

"Philip Giordano, the former mayor of Waterbury, CT and the Republican nominee for the US Senate in 2000 was convicted of sexual activities with minors, including conspiring take them across state lines. The Republicans chose Giordano, convicted of sexually preying on grade-school girls as the Connecticut resident most worthy of representing their party and state in the US Senate.
Richard A. Delgaudio, a harsh Clinton critic known as a Republican "Legal Affairs" leader recently escaped national media attention despite pleading guilty to child pornography. As the Washington Post reported:
Republican activist Richard A. Delgaudio, a longtime Northern Virginia-based fundraiser for conservative causes and personalities, was sentenced to two years' probation yesterday after pleading guilty to a child pornography charge."

"* A Republican, first elected commissioner in 1996 and re-elected in 2000, he was running for his third term.
* In October 2002, commented during a commissioners meeting on hiring more minorities in county government that grants and scholarships are available to help people get college degrees, but "they need to get up in the morning and go to school." That comment upset the local NAACP.
MANSFIELD -- Colleagues and political acquaintances were shocked Thursday at the news Dave Swartz resigned as Richland County commissioner the same day he was in Shelby Municipal Court, facing a sexual battery charge involving a child.
Richland County Republican Party executive committee chairman Mike Smith said the charge was "absolutely stunning.""

Edited on Wed Jan-28-04 03:14 PM by BigDaddyLove
"ABC, God bless them, they don't always agree with me ... but they let me do most of the things I want to do."

He's lucky he's a Conservative working for Liberals....if he was a Liberal working for Conservatives, I doubt he's have the same freedom to "do the things I want to do" that he now enjoys.

15. John's so right on
I mean, I can't count the number of times I have to listen to some lefty on CNN, ABC, FOX, CBS, NBC, CNBC, or MSNBC rant on and on about impeaching Bush, bitching about the war in Iraq being unconstitutional, whining about thousands of innocent deaths in Iraq and Afghanistan (like any of those brown bastards are innocent of anything), tearing down capitalism, or boring me to tears with endless tirades about how Ken Lay steals millions and is unindicted.

And the written press is just so much worse. They go on and on and on about Cheney and Halliburton, and Carlisle group, and stolen elections. It never ends.

If you listen to these lefties, you'd think some of this stuff ACTUALLY HAPPENED! What's with em?
