My cat, Tans
keeps on going to the door She wants to go out to poop . I open the door, she sees the snow and runs behind the blue chair .Soon she goes back to the door , I open the door---you know the rest of the story

Tans will not use the litter box unless it is in pristine condition , so I get the poop scoope and get it really clean She stands by the door and watches

She is the same way about her food dish The Nine Lives must be slightly heaped up in the center , no part of the bottom of the dish must be showing. Every time she eats I must at least pretend to put more food in her bowl

I do not know how she became so picky Sometimes I remind her of what her fate could have been if I had not taken her stray cat butt in all of those years ago

You've taken to the training very well.

Next up: washing the toys.

3. Our cat Harry does the food thing just like that.
He'll be wailing like he's starving, you go down to the bowl and find there's plenty of food, he's just eaten out the middle of it. Shake the bowl, move the food around, and then STAND THERE while he checks it out, and he'll be fine. Bon appetit, you little manipulator!

4. Hey Ms Jitterbug.
Poor cat gotta use nasty old litter box. You lucky you can open your doors! Our two back doors can not be opened because of drifting snow. Tans is wise cat to stay in warm dry house spoiling Ms. Jitterbug with love and affection. My last cat "Madam Blue" went out one day, never returned. I loved that beautiful creature.

Sigh.

5. Cats basically want what we want -- does her box have a bit of privacy?
Is it placed in a heavy-traffic area (say, by a door), or near her food? These are kitty no-nos. Also, there may be something about the particular brand of litter you're using that she doesn't care for.

It also sounds like she wants more attention from you, period. Sometimes, cats will indulge in fussy bahavior just to get your attention, even if it ticks you off.

Sometimes these critters are so high-maintenance. Tans sounds like a great kitty, though!

6. I'd toss the cat outside for 10 minutes
Tans will be using the litter box like it's his best friend.

BTW, I strongly recommend getting a top for the litter box.

7. LOL...
I have to agree.

I'm owned by three cats, but there is a breaking point.

10. that's one picky cat!
my cat definately prefers an enclosed litterbox (one with a top if you don't already have one) He gets mad when he has to use the "open" box (but he still uses it! he knows me, we've lived together for 10 years and I don't put up with crap!)

He also definately prefers to "do his business" outside rather than the litter box. We have a couple feet of snow, so he doesn't go out as far (hence, little presents right outside the door(s).

You could shovel a small area outside for your cat (my neighbor did this for his teeny tiny dog.)Maybe if she can go outside every now and then, she wouldn't mind using the litter box every now and then too

I guess the bottom line is cats are weird, especially when it comes to habits!

I have the opposite problem with my cat's eating habits. He will eat anything and consequently has a weight problem I've not been able to solve. So your picky eater might not be such a bad thing if it keeps her lean : )

11. You're supposed to change kitty litter?
I just keep dumping more in. The cats think it's hilarious.

13. looking out the door
reminds me of a book I read many years ago - the story opens with the main character describing his cat

it is winter, and the cat stands by every door into the house, demanding that it be opened. when the main character opens the door the cat looks out and sees that it is still winter, then wanders to another door and repeats demands for the next door to be opened

the main character concludes that the cat is looking for the door into summer
