The Chris Benoit verdict may be in
Not really a "verdict" but results of an interesting study.

Brain Study: Concussions Caused Benoit's Rage

POSTED: 7:21 am EDT September 5, 2007

NEW YORK -- A new study suggests that a series of concussions may have caused the rage that led wrestler Chris Benoit to murder his wife, his son and commit suicide.

Dr. Julian Bailes, head of neurosurgery at WVU, said the results of tests on Chris Benoit's brain were striking.

Showing a slide of Benoit's brain tissue Wednesday morning on ABC's Good Morning America Bailes pointed out what he called abnormalities.

"These are dead brain cells," said Bailes.

When asked how much of that he found Bailes replied, "It was extensive, throughout Chris's brain. It was striking and maybe shocking in the extent."

The researcher said Benoit's brain scan looked similar to those of Alzheimer's patients.

Of course now he's just Warrior (Yes legal name) . . and one told Hannity that he was afraid to have him on his show do to his pure conservatism . .

3. The teleprompter reader on CNN said the most ridiculous thing about this....
She put her serious face on and said "Chris Benoit's actions may have been caused by problems with his brain". Well no sh*t Sherlock! Was anyone assuming that he killed his wife, son and then himself because of a knee problem or something? It was obvious before the autopsy that he was dealing with some sort of mental problem. I just thought it was an absurd way to begin the story.

Having said that, the findings are both interesting and very sad. Hopefully this will help friends and family deal with the mourning process a little bit better.

4. It is indeed sad . . .
I saw the report posted on a wrestling board and was coming to post it here but flvegan beat me to it.

I always wondered if there was some brain damage involved. . . and now it seems there was a massive amount.

A more explainable and likely answer than the steroids angle they been throwing around the moment they announced a double homicide/suicide.

6. The media wanted SO badly for it to be steroids, which they could then
whirl into the current WWE/steroid scandal which is showing 10 current wrestlers getting suspended, 2 of which were champions until this week, when they conveniently lost their belts.

12. I heard Cryme Tyme was fired for a move on a ref
The storyline was changed by the other team before the match and they were counted out which wasn't in the script.

I hadn't heard about Flair. I thought he was a major shareholder in the WWE, anyway.

He's not wrestling, is he? He's gotta be about 387 years old - I remember him from 30 years ago.

17. Flair gave notice on 8/21. Apparently WWE is offering a major program to get him back...
and TNA is looking to get him for the debut of the 2 hour Impact in October.

I'm pretty sure they'll give him something to make him satisfied

Not saying I know what that is.. but I think they end up keeping the naitch.

WHOOO!!!!!!!

Sheesh "double clicks on Ric Flair versus Brusier Brody" might as well.

19. I'm sure that their WWE contracts prohibit them from going to TNA
or anywhere else during their suspension. Some pretty big names in there, too.

and most of them we'll be back in 30 days. . . (I think one of the suspensions was a 60 day one)

8. I had post-concussion syndrome once.
Large pieces of my vocabulary went missing. I couldn't keep thoughts straight in my head. I got depressed and that's when the anxiety attacks started daily. I dealt with that for 3 years. I thought about killing myself a few times. Anything was better than feeling that bad about myself and life all the time. Thankfully, I had my husband or I don't think I would be here today.

I have heard of many hockey players suffering from PCS with the same symptoms. If it is a multi-concussion issue, then something needs to be done to protect the players and wrestlers from these severe head injuries. I can't think of anyone who would rather an entertainer, for all intents and purposes, fall victim to major head trauma than be around and clear headed to keep entertaining. It's too much of a sacrifice even considering all of the money they make.

9. hockey players at least now
have to wear good helmets, the PCS came mostly from the good old days of playing bareheaded. cracking down on blows to the head has helped as well. But they will never go away (see: Lindros, E). Same for football, you can protect the head as much as you want, but when the game involves hitting people, it's never going away. Soccer has some similar issues with repetitive heading of the ball, but not as much in the vein of multiple concussion syndrome. Frankly, a concussion should be a career ending injury, it's amazing that people will take a year to rehab a knee, but only a week or two to rehab their brains.

I see no way to prevent concussion in professional wrestling.

10. If I remember right
Christopher Nowinski(sp?) has started to look into the impact of repeated concussions on behavior. Christopher was the Tough Enough person that graduated from Harvard. Again pulling this from memory he recently wrote a paper/book on the subject as well and speculated that brain damage from repeated concussions was at the root of the Benoit murder/suicide. Of course I didn't sleep well last night so I could be making all of this up.

11. No your not making it up . .
He indeed has done that . . . and if I remember he'd been calling for test on Benoit's brain from the beginning.

So no fear not you have not been making all that up.

why so many athletes (particularly football players?) seem to have more than average "anger-management" issues.
