After nearly 13 months of unemployment, I've been offered work as a technical editor. Thank you, Powers-that-be! It isn't a dream job in many ways, in that there's no guaranteed salary or benefits, but if I work reasonably hard, I'll make a decent income. Also, I get to do it from home, and so don't have to deal with going out in the horrible winter climate of upstate NY. Praise be!

I was out of a job for over a year, too, before I got the job I have now as an office manager. I wish you well....and I'm really glad you don't have to commute (mine is 50 miles one way!)

Believe me, I've had a lot of warmth passed to me by total strangers and friends alike over the last couple of years. Just pass it on when you get the chance.

And congratulations again. I worked as an employment interviewer for the job service for 25 years and I know intimately how harmful and stressful long-term unemployment can be. I dealt with it 40 hours a week but my clients dealt with it 24/7. Thats tough.

15. Congrats! Where in Upstate NY are you?

I was out of work for 10 months. Started this job in July, but it is the overnight shift. It's not as bad as I imagined, but driving in this damn weather at 11PM can be interesting. At least I don't have to worry about the other drivers much. In the morning I am going in the opposite direction of the traffic jams.
