1. Wow. Read all the comments on the Bonsai Kitten prank.
People need to learn how to read.

2. Some people are incapable of understanding satire
Satirical writing or drama often professes to approve values that are the diametric opposite of what the satirist actually wishes to promote.

Sigh.

5. It IS very realistic-looking...
But the human tendency to react so intensely to an image, without stopping to wonder whether it's real or not, is an eye-opener.

3. One of my favorite pranks from the dorm days
involved gaining access to another's room. He was football player who also happened to be not exactly the sharpest tool in the box.

Anyway, one Saturday night when he was out partying, about a dozen of us tried our own room keys in his lock. My reasoning was that since all our keys opened the outside doors and that there existed master keys that would open any lock, we had a fair likelyhood that one of our keys would be close enough. Sure enough, one was.

I wasn't interested in vandalism or burglary. I was after the telephone, an old style wall mount. I uscrewed the outer cover and placed a piece of paper between two contacts that would prevent the phone from going "off hook."

That's it. We waited for our mark to stumble in which was around 2am. Around 2:30 we quietly gathered around his door and one of us rang him up. He let it ring forever, probably thinking that it would stop. But this was the days before answering machines so it could ring forever if we wanted. We finally heard him stumble out of bed and pick up the phone and answer, "What?" The phone continues ringing. We hear him playing with the handset cradle but his demon possessed phone continued to ring.

Now this was about as far as I'd thought through this little stunt. I had no idea what was going to happen next. Maybe in the back of my mind I thought that he'd remove the cover and discover the piece of paper. Did I mention that he was a football player?

Well, he starts screaming and swearing with rage. And begins to use the handset to pound the crap out of the phone. After several minutes, he manages to knock it off the wall. It's still ringing. After more violence the ringing finally stops. We found out the next day that he grabbed ahold of the phone cable, ripped it out of the wall and went back to sleep.

I did not see that coming and I felt bad that property was destroyed.

But I got over it.
