always knew bush was gay
from: http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/ArticleNews/TPStory/LAC/20040116/REID16/

The President chuckled. "Well, you got a pretty face," he told the surprised Mr. Reid. He wasn't done. "You got a pretty face," he said again. "You're a good-looking guy. Better looking than my Scott anyway."

1. And if he is?
What's your point? Something wrong with being gay?

5. Pickles is stuck with him.
You know, "the lump in the bed"!?!

As a gay man, I wouldn't touch Junior with a 10-foot pole!

I doubt there are very many takers (male or female) for his cheap and tired line, "what a pretty face you have." Sheesh!

:silly:

4. Yep, we're stuck with him.
He's a misogynist, I suspect, and a hetero one at that. I don't think he's gay, but I'm not convinced he loves women, either. If he says he likes to talk about "pussy" with his father, hell, I believe him. I think he is just socially really weird, and if he had been drinking he may have said some strangely inappropriate things to people.

6. Calling someone "gay" should not be as an insult
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 11:31 PM by Rowdyboy
Its a fact of life, neither positive nor negative. I'm gay and I neither ashamed of the fact, nor do I think its funny.

If it seems like I'm being ultra-sensitive it's because I am. Words mean things. They also have the ability to injure and intimidate people, particularly minorities. They should be used carefully and with a purpose.

I don't think you meant any insult, but its not appropriate for a board with a LARGE minority of gay posters.

8. Damn right
I remember years ago when something wasn't working for me, my response would be, "Oh, that's so gay!"

I can't believe how dumb I was, but at the time, I also knew no openly gay people.

There is a big difference between saying "Always knew Shrub was gay" and saying, "Always knew Shrub was a hypocritical, sick, twisted typically man-loving penis-obsessed republican hypocrite sack of fecal matter who likes to have young men pee on him in the bathtub while at the same time he ponders legislation that limits rights of gay people because he secretly loathes himself becuase he's psychologically imbalanced due to his oppressive and hurtful brand of Christian upbringing and classist aristocratic lifestyle that emphasized the importance of *looking* moral, while secretly celebrating and suggesting an immoral lifestyle of greed and immediate gratification of all desires base and profane." (not that *I* think being gay is immoral, but that's what *they* say in their hypocrisy)

And while I don't think the poster of this thread was being intentionally insensitive, the way he phrased it is poor and makes it LOOK like he was being inentionally insulting to gay people.

"Always knew Shrub was a hypocritical, sick, twisted typically man-loving penis-obsessed republican hypocrite sack of fecal matter who likes to have young men pee on him in the bathtub while at the same time he ponders legislation that limits rights of gay people because he secretly loathes himself becuase he's psychologically imbalanced due to his oppressive and hurtful brand of Christian upbringing and classist aristocratic lifestyle that emphasized the importance of *looking* moral, while secretly celebrating and suggesting an immoral lifestyle of greed and immediate gratification of all desires base and profane."

but that would be too long, or what?

13. I hear alot of kids do that...
If they think something of someone is stupid they say, "That is so gay."

I give detentions for it in my class, if I hear it after one, and only one warning. So far, no homophobic parents have called me on it, either.

14. Yes. And this is where it might get interesting.
You only have a certain amount of time to edit stuff - maybe an hour, I'm not sure.

But what's interesting now is, that even though you meant nothing bad with your subject line phrasing, and even though you've mentioned a couple times already that it wasn't the best choice, there will be a certain number of DUers who, when coming to the thread for the first time, even though there are already a number of posts, will refuse to read any of them and will immediately condemn you.

That annoys the hell out of me on DU - people who will bring up a point that was already discussed, and resolved, by 18 people over the course of 52 posts, hours earlier.

People, please, read the posts in the thread before jumping in. So many people just end up looking like idiots.
