Soap Fans: Days of Our Lives might get the ax in 2009!
Read on line that NBC might put the old buzzard to sleep.

I've watched the show off and on since it started. I say, the time has come! The sand are running out of the hour glass.

2. When did it start? I remember watching it when my
grandmother kept me (and watched it) while my parents worked before I started kindergarten. I'm 42 now.

I wasn't supposed to be watching it. I was supposed to be taking a nap after lunch, but she would turn it on and I could see part of it from where I lay down for a nap.

That intro song on the show still reminds me of my grandmother, who has long since passed away.

4. 1965
My mom's watched it since then. She quit watching it for several years and is back. She thinks it's the worst show on the air.

3. Yeah, I think that's pretty much a given.
When NBC picked it up last year, they basically said it would only stay on until 2009. There's a possibility it will go on DirecTV after that, as I believe Passions has.

6. Oh wow, my mom watched DOOL from its inception, which I believe
was 1965(??), until her death in 2001.

I've tried to watch it every so often, but I don't recognize very many characters.

7. This makes me sad.
I've never watched the show, but I recently found out that Susan Seaforth Hayes is about my fourth cousin!

I've been writing to her husband Bill for a couple months now, exchanging information. This will be sad for them.

10. I love Bill and Susan (Doug and Juile)
Their storyline romance was one of the best.

12. I love Susan and Bill Hayes, wish I was kin to them, friend
what you really need to do is convince them to do some sort of live theater production in our area so we can go see it. They were supposed to do 42nd st @ Casa Manana, but someone else came in instead.

The show jumped the shark a long time ago.

20. They do SO many appearances.
Edited on Mon Aug-27-07 04:16 AM by fudge stripe cookays
I'm amazed. Bill writes me once in a blue moon because they're always off somewhere signging books or appearing in local stuff. I'll see what I can do when I send them my change of address card in a few weeks.

I was tickled to be able to send them the first picture anyone had seen of Susan's GGG grandfather.

When I traveled to NY recently, I met with a couple at their house. The wife (the one to whom I'm related) is completely gone with Alzheimers, but her husband let me come in and scan all their old pictures. They have no children, and I was so afraid the photos would be thrown out when they died. They are both quite advanced in years, and I was terrified they'd be lost forever.

My GG grandfather left NY for Wisconsin because he lost everything, but this guy stayed on the family farm in Newfield (near the Finger Lakes) and did quite well for himself.

The pictures are now a treasured facet of my book.

:D

26. NONONONONO
Susan does NOT have Alzheimers, hon.

This was another cousin I got some pictures from that I SENT to Susan. I don't want to be responsible for spreading rumors that aren't true!

My SO works there and said they picked up "Passions". DOOL would be a good catch for them as well.

9. I used to watch it
Edited on Sun Aug-26-07 12:54 PM by Scooter24
back in the day when Kristen (remember her "double"?) and Stefano were key figures. I would set the VCR to record it while at school and watch it when I got back before starting my homework.

The story lines today aren't catchy enough to get me watching again.

13. oh Kristen and her "Double" were hysterical, That actress is
really good. But Days jumped the Shark when they decided the Returned Roman Brady wasn't really Roman but really was John Black and then Original Roman Brady left the show and a different actor who used to play somebody else on the show..wait, I'm in a big circle that just keeps going round and round and oh never mind.

and why does everybody end up as Stefano's or Victor Kiriakis' bastard child?

16. Eileen Davidson in those roles totally cracked me up.
I was in a bad place in college in which I'd basically get up, go to class, go back to my dorm, write papers and then watch DOOL. So I got to see the whole mess get crazier and crazier (Kristen, the double, the double's twin and then a triplet running around was hillarious). I missed the episode in which it actually exploded, though, and I'm still bitter about that a decade later.

14. I always think of my parents and Days of Our Lives.
Mom worked nights, and dad worked at the cleaners across the street. He'd come home at lunch time and watch it while mom slept, then that night at dinner, he'd tell her what happened that day. On days when she was up, they'd watch it together. Just cracked me up!

15. DOOL has become such AWFUL tripe
I don't know when it happened, but, the writers became hell bent on destroying the integrity of the characters.

Let's review some of the RIDICULOUS story lines:

1. Marlena being possessed by the devil

2. Marlena being hypnotized to turn against her family and friends

3. Bo having sex with Billie because he thought she was Hope. Hope of course saw this.

4. Hope possibly being pregnant by Patrick.

5. The current "in the past" irish storyline between the DiMera's & the Brady's.

6. All of the annoying teenagers

7. The loss of Jack & Jen

8. When that crazy lady almost broke up the 2 people who have ALWAYS been together

Ugh, there are more story lines than that to point to but what would be the point?

The writers could save this situation by quitting and letting REAL writers get on the job.
The show isn't anything like what I used to love. I watch it about twice a month now- that's down
from every day.

I read up thread that Direct TV bought Passions- isn't Passions still on NBC??

17. ..."'in the past' Irish storyline"? ...egh?
Edited on Sun Aug-26-07 05:46 PM by BlueIris
That sounds atrocious.

Almost as bad as the "Marlena being possessed by Satan" plot, which was the series' all-time low, I think.

19. It is just AWFUL!!!
EJ plays "Santo" (DiMera) and Sami plays "Colleen" (Brady)

Santo is Stefano's father. Santo's wife (Stef's mom) died.

That's about all I've gotten from it.

22. They should bring on Carl Hutchins (from the old AW soap) as a villain
That guy was great.

I caught a bit of it recently. Used to watch it years ago. They seem to be bringing back the old characters to try to save the show. Stefano is back from the dead for the 100th time along with Patch.

I'll never accept Chris Kostichek as Roman either.

25. You nailed it 100%.
The Salem killer story line was good (it was supposed to be Marlena) .... but then it turned out to be some horse shit that of course everyone that was murdered wasn't.

However, Marlena's flying coffin was riot!

21. DOUL
Ever since they had the 'firings' of almost 14cast members in 1979-1980 area by the ignorant new head writer Nina Laemel (sp), and then that F-IN head writer Jack E Reilly who thought
Days of Our Lives was 'Dark Shadows', screwed up the show, when he had Marlena posessed.....:puke: :puke:

(I loved Dark Shadows, but those were 2 different shows)

I watched it as a kid, from beginning to 1982, then ..........it failed.......

I have watched Young and Restless for 30years now, and that one has stayed consistantly good......
