I went to the book discussion at the library last evening
There were only a few other people there, although the participants said that there are usually more people there. The rest of them were all women over 40. Since I have social anxiety, I was rather nervous the entire time. I did say a lot though as well as gained new insights into the book from others. I haven't really discussed literature with multiple people in real life since college. There are book discussions there every month. I plan on attending them and perhaps in time, I will be able to relax enough to enjoy the discussion.

1. That seems like a very smart way
to spend time (discussing books is one of my very favorite things) and is probably a good place to work through some of your anxious feelings.

Good luck and continued success.

What book did you discuss? :hi:

3. The Thirteenth Tale
By Diane Setterfield.
I actually had bought the book with my Barnes and Noble gift card for Christmas. The next book, I'll actually have to borrow from the library.

6. I haven't read that one. I'll have to look it up.
I just bought Margaret Maron's new one "Hard Row" which is the most recent one in a series of hers I like. It's fiction and a mystery but that's the kind of book I like to unwind with at the end of the day.

I've been trying to do a lot more borrowing from the library these days too. We can do a lot of stuff on-line with our library, like request books to pulled ahead of time so I can just go in and check them out and not wander around hunting for my book (although that's fun sometimes if I have the time).

4. I'm glad to here that getting involved has helped you
I am hoping that this helps me. Being relatively new to town, having moved in last July, I think that this is also a good way to meet people outside of work. I also hope that this group helps me work up to being involved in larger groups that might not be as straightforward in purpose.

7. Have you considered asking if the group would like to meet over dinner?
A library is somewhat clinical.. Maybe a more laid-back atmosphere would allow you to open up easier.

8. the point of a library is a no cost meeting place
once you have to meet "over dinner" you're knocking out the women on a budget

i say "women" because the book discussion group at our library is all female, for reasons related to the choice of books they discuss, sigh

thanks, nikia, for the trip report, i was wondering what happened
