Internet friendships are the worst.
Oh, people say they love you, you're such a good friend. And then one day *poof* they won't answer your messages. And people say, oh that's awful, I'd never do that to you, and then go and do the exact same shit to you themselves.

Internet friendships are NOTHING. It is too easy for people to walk away from them. I hate this fucking crap.

34. If it's a pattern
perhaps you can figure it out and do something to change it. Think of whatever is going on as growing pains and learn from it.

You can't change other people, only your behavior and your response to others' actions.

I disagree with your statement though.
Yes some internet friendships are meaningless but some are very very real.
I have met some truly beautiful people on the internets.
Friends I wouldn't trade for anything
That is my story and i am sticking to it.

You never know who you could be "befriending." It's rather silly unless you know the person in real life.

Friendships are never silly.

15. I'm sorry...
I value all my friendships internet or not and would never do that to anybody, here or in real life.
I suspect that if someone is going to just do that they aren't someone you would want to be friends with anyway.
I recently made a very good internet friend that I am *terrified* is going to go *poof* one of these days, not because he doesn't care but because his life is so complex and busy that he just won't have time for me (as it is I rarely speak to him directly because of that). Sometimes life gets in the way too. Maybe these people have some real issues that you don't know about. Maybe they will come back when they work it out. As it is I still think a friend is a friend, internet or not and should be valued when found.

I have been very lucky with all my internet friendships...

No-one has turned his/her back on me, and several folks here are very close friends...

The internet has changed my life, and for the better...

23. If I wasn't out of town
Babysitting for FIVE (5), yes five kids (wasn't I supposed to be on vacation?) I would go smoosh some love on your arse (well not literally, but you know what I mean). I had to tackle two 7 year old boys just to wrestle my laptop away from them. I believe I got scratch marks and an oddly shaped bruise.

27. I disagree
I've made some good friends on the internets and while there are disappointments (just as there are in real life and it is possible to walk away from those too) they are worth it.

I'm sorry that you are hurting but I don't know that it is just the internet.

Although there is a mentality amongst some that seems to say that internet friendships are not real.

I don't feel that way.

30. they are sorta nothing even if people don't walk away
It's not like they can help you move or lend you their DVD of "Tank". At least I find that they stay pretty casual. That may just be my poor socialization skills though, or my defensiveness. The ability to walk away, though, is one of their advantages. I think I would say good-bye though or explain why I was mad or whatever.

31. You are correct sir.
It's hard to think of them as real until someone puts for that effort to move beyond their keyboard and make an honest to goodness connection with another. As for me it doesn't matter, online or off. True friendships don't come easily to me at all.

33. I have had internet friendships end, just as I have had RL friendships end.
I had a particular relationship end after having been accused of a particularly heinous "crime" (which I did not commit). That was incredibly painful, because this person and I had been friends for years, and I still miss the rapport we had.

But internet friendships are not nothing. I have made many friends in a dozen years on the internet, and while some relationships have come and gone, I still have strong ties to people I've been communicating with in one form or another for a good while.

I'm heartily sorry you have been hurt by someone.

38. Some days are just like that, billyskank.
I've met some wonderful individuals on the internet and I've also met some real schmucks. One guy over in Connecticut disappeared while we were setting up a coffee date only to return again (twice) saying I'm sorry. After the first time I didn't pay too much attention the second time he went mia.

I'm sure you are reacting to a few rotten apples, missed emails, etc.
Some people say "expectations are premeditate resentments".

BTW ~ I'll be there to pick you up at the airport.
