Do your local public schools have AC?
Edited on Mon Aug-20-07 01:05 AM by pstokely
Have they started yet? The district here with AC started last week although they've only had a AC for a few years. I don't think the buses have AC.

1. Yes, all the three primary schools I went to, Elementary, Middle, and High School...
were built in the mid-1970s, with central AC. They were also built with connected parking lots on the same block, you could walk from one to the other two in minutes if need be. The buses never had AC, and I don't think that's changed, they didn't 12 years ago when I was last in public school anyways.

The High School always felt hot though, mainly because it was overcrowded, initially designed to hold 800 students, that was the size of my senior year class alone when I graduated. They are in the middle of refurbishing and expanding sections of the school now, a 2 year project. The school was so crowded that we had "temporary" cubicle partitions for many classes within the school, oddly enough, when I was there, they weren't that temporary.

2. The school my daughter will go to this fall does not have AC
there was a program this summer at it and it was STEAMY. When I was a kid we weren't allowed to wear shorts to school, but that is not a rule at this school, thank goodness.

3. Yes, they do - 120 V, and also 480 three-phase. Can't run a school on DC,
it's not an efficient way of distributing power.

5. No
They will start in two weeks.

The buses don't have AC either.

It usually isn't a problem up here, though summer school is hell.
