*AT LEAST* 6 straight hours of lightning last night
I have never seen anything like it. Never.

The storm was clearly coming in as we ate dinner but I hadn't heard any huge warning. When it hit it was nasty-the local CBS station came on with the map and we were tracking on it on weather.com while we could.

BAM! ~white out across all the windows of every room~ BLAM!

I got flat out scared a couple of times like turning the TV back on and hearing what sounded like a car being dropped from 20 feet or so right outside the window (I turned the TV back off). I never have had a lot of fear of lightning or storms but this was something else. It sounded like it does standing at a M1A1 firing range (from my Army days)

BLAM! POP! BAM!

We finally took Josie up to bed at about 9:30 and she went right out. All of us were exhausted anyway but we couldn't go to sleep. Our girl cat, who is beyond fearless, actually got under the covers beside me at one point.

I woke up at 2:30 AM (and it takes something to wake me up) and it was still going on. I had been awoken a couple of times in between about 10:30 and then also. Lightning at 2:30 in the morning????

Amazing stuff. No real damage in the neighborhood that I could see. Amazing.

1. We had it from 8:00 p.m. until past 3:00 a.m.
Totally freaked out cats in hiding, the wind and lightning. I finally went up to the third floor and watched the storm (it was following the Rivah), and I saw several lightning strikes (impacts) up by Buford Rd.

4. Yeah it probably did feed off the river
I had thought about that and I hadn't heard any of the meteorological masterminds on channel 12 mention that either. I need to start watching 8 (6 is the one to watch for IN the city).

5. IT DID!
I was going to mention that but decided to skip over it.

The local channel cut in with the radar image and then went back to BB8 after about 5 minutes, cut back in during a commercial, then cut back/went to commercial/cut back in (weird) and the next thing we see _______ shaking hands with Julie Chen. WOW!

I am starting a thread on it.

7. I do, too. But these storm waves were CRUSHING.
Almost eight hours of "light-up-every-window-shake-the-house-and-rattle-the-windows" lightning and thunder - add in the howling wind and rain, and it was not fun. And, like I said, I like thunderstorms, too. Eventually I went up to the top of the house and just watched (I couldn't sleep, that was for damn sure!).

8. I used to
I used to drive my wife crazy because I always seemed to take a shower as one was coming in (no reason why it always worked out that way) but as mikeytherat points out this was out of this world HUGE. It just never let up ...for 6-8 hours nonstop and violent.

9. When the storm map color is not orange, not red, but FUCHSIA (and huge)
you know you are hosed.

15. LOL. I have to say when I saw the map early in the evening,
I was a bit freaked out. I just KNEW the dachschund would keep me up all night and I was right.

*sigh*

13. I think we got the remnants that were hitting Petersburg.
Watching weather.com last night, the suckers just kept coming.

I'm talking to my friend who is walking her dog at the lake, and one of the pontoon boats is turned over completely. :wow:

had the electrician over yesterday to replace it...

the most spectacular middle of the night storm I ever witnessed that went on for hours was over Lake Erie ...it was really beautiful and scary at the same time...

24. If you saw 'War of the Worlds' with Tom Cruise, the lightning
really reminded me of it. That and the fact that my air conditioner in my office sounds exactly like the 'tripods' starting up. :scared:

18. it kept me up most of the night.
When it was coming in the air almost looked green. The only thing that happened at my place was the grill cover blew off. Of course the worlds cutest baby (Keira) slept right through it.

Helluva storm.

25. You lucky dog!
We haven't gotten any quite that heavy, nor long-lasting at my place this year...we had a couple recently but they didn't last all night. And though the lightning was fairly frequent, it wasn't powerful/close/loud enough, only a couple really good <FLASH><BANG!!!!!> hits. I love storms, the more obnoxious and cantankerous and noisy the better. I like racket! Lots and lots of racket! Storms oughta be noisy, dammit! :D

26. frak
Yep that was one long storm. It was frackin hot when I got
home. I was debating a bike ride around seven, but it was a
bit dark.
Glad, I passed because all hell broke lose at 7:30.
I let one of the cats in from the side porch, but another one
must have snuck out.

When my wife came home, she said there was one angry cat
outside.
I opened the door and in runs a soaked kitty. Oops.

The power flickered off and on, but never lost it.
Just enough to cut out the AC each time.

Finally got to sleep around 2:30.
