but I do like herbal tea or just plain hot water. My husband drinks Sumatran coffee which he grinds from whole beans. And people think Arkansans are hicks!

14. Bad, bad coffee.
Millstone or somethin' like that. Just 'cause it's in a bag don't mean it ain't crapola. I miss my Peet's!! Why oh why won't they open one within 400 miles of me? :(

Actually, I know the answer to that. A better question would be, "why don't I make more money so I can afford to get it shipped to my whiney backcountry butt?" :)

18. Earl Grey, had my coffee earlier
Edited on Mon Jan-26-04 08:28 AM by kayell
I start every day with some high octane fresh brewed coffee, than maintain my caffeine level throughout the day with constant input of earl grey, green jasmine or oolong. With the odd mug of miso soup to make me feel righteous. ;-) Plus I just love that salty, tangy miso flavor.

19. I'm from Seattle.
It's 5am here and I haven't made up my mind yet, but I have a nice selection of whole beans to chose from, including Stockholm Roast and Blue Mountain. I have an old Norelco filter coffee maker which I haven't used for a few years, but it still makes excellent coffee. The one I generally use now, is a "syphon" (vacuum) model made by Hario (http://www.hariousa.com/cofsypnouv5c.html). DELICIOUS!! I also use a French Press model on occasion. I have a fancy hand grinder w/glass base, but it's proven too tedious for morning usage, so I got a small electric burr-grinder. Separate from the rest of all my coffee apparatus is a nice espresso machine (http://www.wholelattelove.com/Capresso/espressopro.cfm) Alongside it is a burr-grinder, set to espresso grind, and loaded with espresso roast beans.

Some of the beans I buy locally, but the rest I order from the web. (http://www.gevalia.com/gevalia/index.jsp) And I'm seriously considering getting a small coffee roaster, since roasted beans have a shelf life much shorter than is generally realized. (And YES, I quit alcohol over 20 years ago, and tobacco over 10 years ago. Cut me some slack on this "extravagance").

36. Found a coffee in Publix in a small pack for $1.29
and decided to try some. It is van Houtte brand imported from Canada. I tried the Mocha flavor and the Irish Cream. The Irish Cream wins, but they are both very good, with no bitterness and great aroma. I usually use Kava instant(hard to find) because it is acid-reduced, which removes bitterness.

I found the van Houtte web site to see if I could order a large bag and, wouldn't you know, there is a notice on the web site that, due to some new FDA regulations, they cannot ship many items to the US. Arrgghhh! They say the inability to ship to the US should be temporary and they are working hard on complying with the new regs. What's all this I hear about free trade? The US government is interfering with my morning coffee!

37. any other twig tea (Kukicha) drinkers here?
Made from the twigs, not leaves of the tea plant. Milder, less caffeine, vaguely sweet.

Hi everyone! This is such a nice community. I can almost imagine you all sitting around the table, mugs in hand.

I'm kind of a shut-in this winter, recovering from CFS. I am glad to have found this place. Was dying for some real brain company; living with overworked/barely political parents.

Good morning!:hi:

This evening I'm about to have a cup of Celestial Seasonings' "Sleepytime" tea, which does the job. It even has a picture of a teddybear in his pajamas in a rocking chair in front of a roaring fire.
Just looking at the box makes me feel sleepy.

and a few shakes of Tabasco sauce. Or sometimes, I'll substitute a shot of tequila for the honey and Tabasco.

And sometimes I'll just leave out the coffee, too.
