College kids: what's on your schedule this semester?
So far I have:

Deciding What's News
Rhetorical Criticism
Advanced Writing: Businesses and Organizations

and I'm going to have to beg my way into "Interpersonal Communication Theory," because I need it and it's offered in the evening.

I'm not real crazy about science, but I did have cool genetics and forensics classes.

21. I loved science in High School
Edited on Tue Aug-14-07 11:59 AM by MadAsHellNewYorker
then I went abroad and came back with a greater interest in social and political threory. You didnt really get that in High School, so thats what I studied in college. Now, after working, im back realizing i shoulda stuck with the sciences. :banghead:

Math is my worst. I took Calc this past spring and lets just say I was lucky to pass by the skin of my teeth.

26. Don't worry, calculus is the road block for most math students
I had to take it twice, once in HS and again freshman year of college. And math is my best subject.

29. I had an awful teacher too...
He was ok during lectures, but when you would ask for more problems/examples, he would say no.

After doing a subject for a week he would say that these have all been problems that are too "easy" for the test.

We would have a review session before the test and he would say "This wont help you, the test is harder." But he wrote the damn tests, why did he have to make them so hard?

The tests were 6-8 questions of really really really hard problems that he never really broached how to approach during the lecture. and trust me, i went to every lecture!

11. Same day as you!
My T/Thurs is easy, Printmaking and the Ind. Study. MWF is going to be a bitch...3 classes from 10-2:30, straight through.

One year left, one year left...That is my mantra.

I just wish we didn't have a family Bday party to attend the day before school. I should be staying home and drinking instead. :P

Thank god you're not in my class. ;)

I was really worried about teaching last year, but it turned out to be really fun. And my evaluations were all positive, so I must have done a decent job.

What year are you?

24. I'm just going into my third quarter
of a two year paralegal course. I'm really loving it and wish I'd been able to go to college a long time ago because I think I'd love to go to law school. I really enjoy the material and it makes sense to me. But I'm now old and poor so the chances of going too far are kinda slim.

27. I had classmates
who were in their 50s and by no means wealthy, so if you really want to go to law school, don't give it up!

Though getting a paralegal degree and actually working in a law firm setting is a good way to decide whether or not you really want to be a lawyer. And, trust me, if you decide to go to law school, if you have a few years of paralegal experience, you'll be sooooo far ahead of the other 1L's.

Just...keep thinking about it. Don't assume that doors are closed because of age or financial status!

:hi:

30. Thanks for the encouragement
I don't discount it entirely and I've geared my classes towards the possibility of continuing (I don't even have a BA so I'd have to do that first). I love school, I've got a 4.0 GPA so far and hope to keep it there. It's good to know others have done it. :hi:

31. No, that I did not.
However, I did give everyone multiple chances to PASS. Which, eventually, everyone did.

I'm not sure if I'll give as many chances this year. But in the end, they all did the work, so they earned it.

22. I envy the kids at USF...
FLAT campus...

Might be the best reason i could come up with for transferring there (toyed with the idea when we were down in Tampa in January '06)...

Well, other than the beach being 30 minutes drive away. *L*

25. Having spent a few years at USF in the early 90's
I have to say that I HATED that campus. Huge, sprawling, small-town of a campus. Not enough parking, walking/biking from one side to the other in 90 degree heat. Now, of course, they have convenient parking garages, and the campus is much more user friendly in the layout. It is nice 'n flat, though. I think the only "hill" there is the one outside the Andros dorms down towards the pool. It makes for good times getting drunk and rolling your friends down it.

There's the new quickie bridge to Clearwater. Beach is 25 minutes away, now!

35. You need oxygen and sherpas to get across WVUs campus...
Numerous staircases between buildings that are 80+ steps... nothing is close to each other.

Oh... and there are four separate campuses in Morgantown: downtown (most liberal arts classes), Evansdale (fine arts, agricultural, and engineering), The Law College (the back side of which leads down a 200'+ hill to the football stadium parking lot, and is the best sledding hill in the area), and the Health Sciences Center (med school and all health-related studies).

Al four are within hiking distance to each other, and public transit between them is pretty good. But still... WVU takes up 1/3 of the city. *L*

USF is pretty cheap, IIRC. Cost of living isn't bad, AND we can use a couple more blue votes on the I4 corridor.

19. Taking the semester off to assist Oktoberain...
This is her first semester, so i'm taking time off to help her around campus.

She's taking some of the same courses that i did (SOC 101, American Government, Intro to Philosophy, and Env. Geoscience), with some of the same profs (with whom i'm still friendly), and i'll be sitting in with her to help with note-taking and playing 'sherpa' between buildings on our mountainous campus.

Classes start next Monday, so if you see her here, wish her luck!
