Pop culture things that you LIKE
Edited on Tue Aug-14-07 11:29 AM by mvd
- Classic pop and rock, and modern pop (extends to pop/rock and indie/pop.) Classic pop I like includes artists like The Beatles, Elvis, Rolling Stones, The Who, Simon And Garfunkel, James Taylor, Joni Mitchell, Dusty Springfield, Bob Dylan, Blondie, The Bangles, Bruce Springsteen, U2, Indigo Girls, R.E.M., Michael Jackson, Bon Jovi, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, The Sundays, and Fleetwood Mac. Modern pop I like includes The Corrs, Michelle Branch, The Veronicas, Eisley, New Pornographers, Barenaked Ladies, Anna Nalick, The Dollyrots, new Mandy Moore, Aly & AJ (their first CD was promising with a first half that was quite strong, but Insomniatic takes them to a new level,) Damone, Kelly Clarkson, Alicia Keys, early Norah Jones, Stars, Fountains Of Wayne, Rilo Kiley, The Pierces, Sarah McLachlan, Rooney, A Fine Frenzy, Kate Voegele, Coldplay, The Shins, Nina Gordon, Belle & Sebastian, Alison Ray, The Decemberists, Sheryl Crow, Susan Cagle, Camera Obscura, The Essex Green, The Format, The Hold Steady, Tilly & The Wall, Bree Sharp, The Like, Bonnie McKee, Green Day (ok, maybe more pure rock,) Saving Jane, Avril Lavigne, Paramore, and others..

- American Idol

- Young And The Restless

- The Simpsons

- John Grisham books

- Wendy's fast food

- Coast To Coast AM

- Football, baseball

I could list more.

(on edit: added Avril)

3. I'm a Pearl Jam fan
They are rock, but popular, so I wouldn't mind their inclusion.

19. I could list youtube
I don't use it a whole lot, but I watch celebrity interviews, music videos, etc.

Before I get off, I want the afternoon/evening crowd to see this topic.

4. Early SNL, counter-culture animation (Simpsons, etc.), the B52's music, etc.
Not a lot, it appears. Everything can't be Thomas Pynchon.

6. Everything. Life's too short to dislike stuff. Everything has something in it.
All them old fuddie-duddies who love to hate everything scare me.

7. I agree with your philosophy, and try to avoid wasting time with that which does not satisfy
but I'm hard to satisfy... I'd prefer it to be different, but it's not. Shrug...

9. That's not agreeing with my philosophy, that's disagreeing!
 My philosophy is that if you hear or see or read or watch something, you choose to enjoy it. It has nothing to do with being hard or easy to please, it has to do with finding the value in it. The opposite--finding value only in something that meets criteria you adopt while rejecting the criteria those who like the experience adopt--is limiting. And elitist. And undemocratic. And unpatriotic. And dyslexic... (I was running out of adjectives...)

10. I keep hatred to a minimum
Even the music I don't like, I couldn't hate. I hate evil personalities like Bush's.

My new slogan is "pop music done right is like the best chocolate."

18. Cool
Edited on Tue Aug-14-07 12:41 PM by mvd
There have been quite a few times I've found fellow fans here of new artist discoveries of mine. John Nolan used to be in Taking Back Sunday, which I'm not crazy about, but Straylight Run is great pop music without the emo. Michelle DaRosa (John's sister) is quite attractive!

21. I like
American Idol and John Grisham books. I don't watch AI because I don't like feeling 'hooked in' to those reality shows, and if I don't start I don't get hooked.

I like "Alias", "CSI", and "Criminal Minds", too. I love The Killers. :)

22. The Soup, Entertainment Weekly, Best Week Ever,
30 Rock, The Office, Lost, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, The Showbiz Show with David Spade, Olbermann's Worst Person in the World, the occasional Big Mac, the occasional true crime book and any cheesy countdown show on VH1.
