"Homecoming"

Here I am, looking for truth again,
in this trashy August landscape
where I started,
here, at the back door of the city,
where the trail of weeds
and Weeping Willows
turns into train tracks,
and the dead factories
with their eyes shot out
are monstrous...

I thought I'd know everything by now,
and have it labeled,
put away childish things,
and stop fidgeting.
But, no,
those deaf, dark places
are still full of terror;
the stench of summer
is still sick and heavy.

The sense of helplessness...

And the realization that she'll never know it all...
