The BEST BAND IN THE WORLD is calling it quits this weekend.
Final shows this weekend at Red Rocks for The String Cheese Incident. Damn.

After Jerry Garcia died i was looking for a band that could take me to the highs that the Grateful Dead did. I found them..... SCI. I saw them about a hundred times since 98 and never did they dissapoint me. They played hundreds of songs every year, no two Incidents were ever the same. At every show they averaged one song they never played before, one song they never played that year and one song they never played that tour.

So many of the old time grateful dead family moved over to the Cheese tour. Jg's ex wife Mtn girl was a regular as well as Bob's songwerter John Barlow.

Their own festival, held at Hornings hideout in Oregon was amazing. Workshops on everything for the modern hippie, environmentalism, art, dance, politics etc..... And some of the best shows ever.

I will seriously miss them.

Hee is one of my favorite shows http://www.archive.org/details/sci2003-08-01.flac16

For any Dead heads out ther ther is a fantstic dark star jam in this show as well as a tribute to Jerry.

7. So funny....I ahd a gutar player friend once who...
Used to tell me that the guitar solo in "Radar Love" was the best solo ever. I used to laugh at him and wonder how any guitar player could possibly never heard anything better than that.

12. Radar Love is FAR from their best work.
They have an incredible body of work that goes back almost as far as The Beatles. You've never heard Eight Miles High done properly until you've heard GE do it live.

Not to mention MY favorite work, Long Blond Animal....

2. Bummer! I really like their "Feel Good Song"
Edited on Wed Aug-08-07 11:51 PM by Shine
I'm not totally familiar with their music, but they definitely seem to have a great vibe. I'm sure they'll be missed on the concert circuit. Hey, at least you've gotten to see/hear them live plenty of times. That's more than most of us can say!

:hi:

edit to add: Welcome to DU, btw! Nice to have you aboard! :toast:

19. they are a great band though I only saw them twice, the last time
was a very memorable time in Amsterdam a few years back when my sister used to live there. A bunch of her Deadhead friends happened to be visiting from the states the same time as me so we all went to see them play at the "Melkveg" where we could legally and openly pass the joints around. :smoke:

They played a bunch of shows relatively near me in NYC last month but they were all sold out. :(

on that site and it's been awhile for that even! I wonder if the other String Cheese show I saw is there, it was sometime in the late 90's or maybe 2000 at Nashoba Valley ski area in Westford, MA.

23. Why are they bailing out?
Just too much cash? Or the ever-popular "artistic differences"?

25. The guitar player wants out...
Billy Nershi. He is kind of a blugrass guy and he is not too happy with the electronic direction the band has gone in lately. He is also at that age when people get restless. The Cheese has a kind of grateful dead aura about them and that type of adualtion has to get tiresome also. So he is bowing out.

He is an an incredible player and the only acoustic guitar player that can hang in a jam when it gets really intense. Not even Dave hangs when it starts to get nasty.

The shows this weekend so far have been pretty stellar. Tonight is it. God I will miss these guys. Never has band connected me musically ansd sipritually.
