Freaked
out...

just sayin'

I am freaking out today... too many plates spinning and afraid they will all come crashing down.

Guess that is the chance I take today...

:patriot:

:hi:

how's everyone else?

1. Oops. Thought you meant the film.
Try not buying into the drama of the moment, especially if it's distracting you. Watch a funny TV show or something. Cultivate a positive mood. Technically, emotions are a choice, if you can get to that place...

2. trying to distract myself with work
and having limited success

emotions are a choice... well they are choosing me. The drama of the moment is my own creation and I'm just feeling the fear of that situation right now.

Thanks

4. The body is the horse, the rider is the consciousness, and the horse can be tamed.

Meditation is the key.

Edit: Of course, you -could- rent the film "Freaked" and be distracted by a good laugh or two.

13. Laughter is always best.
Regarding medidation:

http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/mn/mn.118.than.html

There is a book, "The Path of Emancipation", which translates this into more functional modern language. Trust me, this really works. Awareness of the body, in the body, is the key. How odd when things start changing as a result of the practice...

The Tibetan practice of the "Dark Retreat", to live in an enclosed, completely dark area alone for 40 or so days, is said to reveal to the practitioner that the senses are hungry, and that when deprived, that they will actually -create- stimulus. Such as visions. The meditation stills them. How wonderful when you first arrive in that utterly quiet place, not having even known it existed!

Cheers, sorry for being overly serious, but this has helped me a lot, and I've needed it badly. I'm currently living with homelessness and total loss of property as a sword of Damocles, and am dealing with it in this manner (no luck on money). Do what you have to, regardless. If the sword falls, I'll continue meditating and become stronger from the experience. I won't let it overwhelm me, as I used to become overwhelmed.

16. "Sleep is the best meditation"
I didn't say it. The Dalai Lama did, and if there's a dude who knows from meditation, the expertise doesn't get much better.

I've noticed a lot of inchoate nastiness floating around right now, not just on DU, but in the material world. I've seen two total strangers freak out in public, and been cursed out by several other drivers for the unforgivable crime of obeying the law (it says "no right turn on red", so can we give the horn and the obscenities a rest?). Maybe it's the phase of the moon, or maybe Mercury is retrograde - whatever the hell that means. I just think that people are sad and frustrated, and the antics of the politicians aren't helping.

BTW, do you know what the Dalai Lama said to the hot-dog vendor?

"Make me one with everything"

29. Hey, I *like* Dalai Lama jokes
As long as they're not mean-spirited. My favorite cartoon:

I've though of having a T-Shirt made with his image melting, and the caption "Less well known than the Dalai Lama was his cousin the Dali Lama.." I'll bet some one who's good at photo shop could do it to a print of "The Persistence of Vision"

3. When things get freaky, the only thing to do...
is to embrace the freakishness. Seriously, embrace it and work through it, that's what I do. Don't fight it, make it your friend and work with it.

OK...actually what I do is fall apart emotionally, curl up into a ball on the floor, and suck my thumb until I fall asleep and all the bad things go away

It will be alright SPK, trust me on this. If you want things to be ok, they will be eventually. :hi: Just work through it...

18. Actually, my local post office is pleasant and efficient
Edited on Mon Aug-06-07 03:47 PM by FloridaJudy
You take a number, and then take a comfy seat. They even have a TV there (alas, it's tuned to CNN, but then you can't have everything). They've also extended their hours to accommodate working folks. Unfortunately, my local mail carrier screws up so often that I spend a lot of time there picking up my mail.

Even the local DMV is less than horrible. They seem to have stream-lined their processing so that one no longer has to stand in line for hours. And the employees are actually pleasant.

I figure they're well paid, or else they take a lot of drugs. Maybe both.

(edited for typo)

sometimes you WANT things to get as fucked up as they can possibly be. First of all, it's exciting. Second of all...that is the only point when you will experience true hysterical laughter. And laughter is not only funny, it's hysterical!!!!!!

Now, don't worry about offering to pay me for this wisdom. I would never charge a friend.
