Fine, straight, limp hair . . .
i have it - what is the best product - in your estimation - on the market to 'pump it up'??

i have soooo many hair products on my shelves that i need to toss out.
i just want to find one really, really good one that would give me volume and not fizzle out on me a few hours into the day. golly gosh darn-it, shoot. believe me, i've even thought about extensions to plump it up - but that's too darned expensive for my little pocketbook.

1. I am the queen of fine, limp hair.
As well as of weird pantyhose.

I recently bought a product called Bumble & Bumble Thickening Spray that works surprisingly well. Got it at an Aveda salon. A bit expensive but you don't use very much.

So much hair that it drives me nuts sometimes. I guess there's no such thing as a happy medium. ~sigh~

2. You have to use a volumizer for several days in a row in order to add volume.
A good one is Helene Curtis Thermasilk.

No wonder it's hard to find. I wonder why they did that.

16. that was going to be my suggestion
I don't know that I've ever found a product that pumped up hair.

I think the best you can do is to find a hair stylist who knows what s/he is doing and can give you a cut w/ some layers that will make hair look more voluminous and have some movement.

9. I am not a hair product snob, so I use Pantene's "volumizing" shampoo
we get it at Costco. :D

I've got super-fine hair, too....but it's curly.

15. I have the fine, curly hair thing, too
I use Infusium 23 Volumizing shampoo. It works better than any other product I've tried over the years. (And it's cheap!)

11. Hey hey
you are talking about my hair. Every stylist I have had for the past decade or so has complained about how difficult it is to cut my straight, fine locks. I've tried tons of different hairstyles and products.

Best solution I have found to date:
(1) a short hairstyle parted off center and cut in long layers (layers don't have the same weight as blunt cut dos);
(2) no conditioner (makes my hair oily);
(3) no blow dryer (gives me split ends really bad);
(4) no combs or brushes (no need as my hair does not tangle and falls back into place - combs and brushes seem to make the hair lay flat against my head);
(5) any generic volumizing shampoo used consistently;
(6) after washing allow to air dry until just slightly damp before applying product;
(7) turn head upside down and apply product only to the roots of the hair near the scalp (applied only near the roots it gives lift without making the shaft of the hair stiff);
(8) the product I use is the same glue type stuff (no wax!) that is used for spiking hair;
(9) lift head, style as needed with fingertips.

12. Hair extensions
As for Penelope Cruz, here's a clip from the net:

"Despite the fact that it is not public knowledge, most of Hollywood's A-list women won't leave the house without them. Enter Feleny Georghiou, creator of Connect Hair Systems. After seventeen years in business, not only does Feleny work on Victoria Beckham, Sharon Stone and Penelope Cruz to ensure their locks are long and lustrous, but she is regularly called to the sets of films like The Merchant of Venice, Casino Royale and The Lord of the Rings to add extensions to the stars tresses. Remember Orlando Bloom as Legolas? His long elfin hair was thanks to the creative talent at Connect."

and nothing works. I paid outlandish prices for products guaranteed to give hair volume and they have all been disappointments.

17. no conditioner, at all.... unless you have treated hair (color, body wave
etc.)

Honestly? I use setting lotion and roll my hair. It is the only way I have ever found to get some volume. How much time do you have to get ready in the morning? Get out of the shower, towel dry your hair, put a little setting lotion in and get some of the bigger velcro rollers and do a quick set (really - you're not going for super-set Doris Day type hair, so looser, tousled curls are better and take no longer than putting your hair in hot rollers) and let it dry or blow dry it ---

With fine, limp hair, you need to spend a little time, or just cut it short. Aren't many solutions unless you're willing to futz with it a bit.

21. Use TIGI's Small Talk on your roots.
Take your shower. Then put dime-sized amount of Small Talk on hands/fingertips; and work into roots at crown. If you have long hair (I am assuming you have some length); put it up as high as it can go until dry if possible.
Works wonders for me...but my hair also changed with pregnancy. The hormones gave it some extra bounce.

24. Hey, wait a few years (or more) until it goes gray - then things change!
When I was young, my hair was straight, limp, and super, super fine - many of the hairs so fine that you practically needed a microscope to see them!

Then those gray ones started coming in - those babies are coarse and wavy. Color the grays brown, and now my hair has some wave to it and has some body for the first time evah!

(maybe not the solution you're looking for, but hey... :-) )

26. I do have some silver threads in my mane - but I want that lucious, thick
bouncy head of hair where I actually feel as if I have hair on my head...

I can empathize with bald people. Feels like there is nothing there.

27. Nope, that does not work for everyone.
I have always had fine, straight, limp hair. I am now 68 years old and my hair is turning gray. At least, I think it is. I keep it blonde, so the gray blends in. But my hair is still fine, straight and limp. Gray hair has not made any difference in the texture.

No, your sister is the queen of fine, straight and limp hair!

I have given up on volume and am focusing on color.
