1. I took the test...
and came to that question and immediately thought of the crooks in office and had to pick justice. So it would vary with the circumstance, but in most instances, I do think I'd pick justice. I am, however, against the death penalty.

2. That question
cannot be answered. Mercy can be and justice can be mercy.

4. I'm an INFP
I only play an extrovert here, actually I'm not as introverted as I might have once been.

Okay, mercy or justice.

my answer was mercy.

of course one might think that just means I'm a bleeding heart liberal, but actually I believe that mercy can mean many things, and sometimes justice is mercy and sometimes mercy is justice. Depends on who you are in relation to the question that is asked. If you are a crime victim, justice may be mercy. If you are a crime committer, mercy may truly be justice. Justice may be mercy to society if it puts someone, or some people away where they can't harm others. Mercy may be justice to a dying person who is in horrendous pain, and is given extra morphine at their request to take them "over the bridge" as someone so profoundly put death recently.

So I believe in mercy, giving people the benefit of the doubt, giving second chances.

One of my personal issues that I feel the need to rant about occasionally is the fact that the majority of people in prisons are there due to drug abuse, or crimes committed while under the influence or to get their substances. Mercy would have one give that person a second chance, a chance to change their life. Prison may be the justice and the mercy to pay for the "crime", however if the crime is simply possessing or using drugs, then mercy would dictate offering that person help, and supervising their probation. Justice would do the same in my opinion in that situation.

Sometimes mercy=justice, sometimes it is the inverse and sometimes the converse, but they are not totally separable.

Then there are times when I am thankful that there is not true "justice" (or immediate consequences for all actions) in the universe, or who knows what I might have had coming ;)

Good question!

7. iNTj - Mastermind Rational

I believe in justice tempered by mercy.

You are:
slightly expressed introvert

moderately expressed intuitive personality

slightly expressed thinking personality

moderately expressed judging personality

Of the four aspects of strategic analysis and definition, it is the contingency planning or entailment organizing role that reaches the highest development in Masterminds. Entailing or contingency planning is not an informative activity, rather it is a directive one in which the planner tells others what to do and in what order to do it. As the organizing capabilities the Masterminds increase so does their inclination to take charge of whatever is going on.

It is in their abilities that Masterminds differ from the other Rationals, while in most of their attitudes they are just like the others. However there is one attitude that sets them apart from other Rationals: they tend to be much more self-confident than the rest, having, for obscure reasons, developed a very strong will. They are rather rare, comprising no more than, say, one percent of the population. Being very judicious, decisions come naturally to them; indeed, they can hardly rest until they have things settled, decided, and set. They are the people who are able to formulate coherent and comprehensive contingency plans, hence contingency organizers or "entailers."

Masterminds will adopt ideas only if they are useful, which is to say if they work efficiently toward accomplishing the Mastermind's well-defined goals. Natural leaders, Masterminds are not at all eager to take command of projects or groups, preferring to stay in the background until others demonstrate their inability to lead. Once in charge, however, Masterminds are the supreme pragmatists, seeing reality as a crucible for refining their strategies for goal-directed action. In a sense, Masterminds approach reality as they would a giant chess board, always seeking strategies that have a high payoff, and always devising contingency plans in case of error or adversity. To the Mastermind, organizational structure and operational procedures are never arbitrary, never set in concrete, but are quite malleable and can be changed, improved, streamlined. In their drive for efficient action, Masterminds are the most open-minded of all the types. No idea is too far-fetched to be entertained-if it is useful. Masterminds are natural brainstormers, always open to new concepts and, in fact, aggressively seeking them. They are also alert to the consequences of applying new ideas or positions. Theories which cannot be made to work are quickly discarded by the Masterminds. On the other hand, Masterminds can be quite ruthless in implementing effective ideas, seldom counting personal cost in terms of time and energy.

but every once in awhile...an ENFP. Cause I think in my profession, I'm expected to be an E and mold myself to fit that. In reality and what I'm comfortable with is an I.

12. Mercy. It actually exists. Sometimes.
Justice is simply the powerful imposing its will under a benevolent guise.

14. INTJ, here--
I think I value justice higher than mercy, because justice is for all but mercy is a special dispensation--justice can be tempered with mercy, where warranted, but justice should prevail--for the sake of the larger society. Or something like that. (I wish my personality description didn't sound to me so much like "unsocial judgemental geek." I really can be pleasant, if awkward. Although I like the sound of "mastermind". Dr. "Vixen" Evil.)
