They've already signed the clean-up and rebuilding contract with Halliburton.

I understand the Mall of America will be seized and restyled as the "new, upscale Gitmo."

Scared the devil out of me. I'm still terrified of bridges. My heart aches for those involved with this disaster.

9. I freaked out when I found out what happened.
I was worried about my little sister and my best friend. Luckily, I got through to them before the phone lines were all tied up.

My husband drove over that bridge a few times on Monday; I used it all the time when we lived in the cities.
I still haven't heard about my grandparents, but they live a bit of a ways away, and I VERY much doubt they'd have been anywhere near it.

It's fucked up and depressing.

Yeah, New Orleans has been completely rebuilt, just like Bush promised! So I guess the new bridge will be up soon and all the other crumbling bridges will be repaired now?

It does occur to me that because the Republican Convention will be held here, this particular bridge will be quickly rebuilt... Only the other crumbling bridges all over the country that the Republican assclowns won't see, won't be repaired.

10. Right about now Norm Coleman must be sweating his ass off
If Bush fails to help out with the people affected by the bridge (especially since it was a main artery in the city), people will get pissed and hold Norm Coleman accountable in 2008.

If Bush shows up in Minnesota to give his support to those people affected by the bridge (especially since it was a main artery in the city), people will get pissed and hold Norm Coleman accountable in 2008.

In a nutshell - Norm is probably going to be unemployed in 2008

59. Surreal indeed!
My geology background REALLLLLLYY made this hard to believe--my first gut reaction was "we don't even have earthquakes here--that damn thing just fell down!" It's that whole "this kind of thing doesn't happen HERE"-syndrome.

I've made it my business to avoid 35W as much as possible for about the last ten years--traffic now will reach almost sublimely intolerable levels. I'm glad I just moved to within two miles of where I work and have shopping between work and dhome.

My husband's 15 mile commute when we lived in the cities took about 45 minutes.
Now that we're near Duluth, his 20-something mile commute takes about 20-some minutes.

I sure don't miss the traffic!

19. Oh I'd bet he is
While Bush just blamed the Democrats in congress, Tony Snow just stabbed Pawlenty in the back by saying the state's responsible for this whole thing.

See this thread: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=389x1495260">"White House cites deficiencies in bridge but buck stops with the states"

I have to agree: Norm's days are numbered, and he knows it. Especially with the '08 convention in Saint Paul, just next door to this glaring reminder of Timmy "no new taxes" Pawlenty's legacy.

first Rove tells Pawlenty not to run for Senate because "they" wanted Norm Coleman (had it been ME, I would have grown a pair and ran anyway). And now they offer no support to their puppet that did their bidding.

If I were Timmy the Tool, I would be fucking pissed.

20. I just keep thinking that I crossed the Mississippi 10 times
in the last three weeks--and at places where the river is even wider and deeper than at Minneapolis (3 times on the I-80 bridge at the Quad Cities; once the 280 bridge, and 6 times on the Dubuque-Wisconsin Bridge). I'm feelin' mighty lucky today. But worried, too. Can't help but wonder which bridge (tunnel, steam pipe, levee) will be next.
