1. I would suggest a dual boot system of 3.1 and DOS...
That way you are covered for the notepad and also the newest games such as Zork.

The itunes deal on Macs is a total Zune ripoff too. Don't buy into the hype.

3. its all hype. I've done my own testing and the newer processors are no better...
than an older vic20 architecture. they just want you to continue on the upgrade path, leading to this crazy idea of decreased data access times. Do I really need to get my info in milliseconds as compared to minutes as say the old cassette drives? don't think so. why do you think they don't include floppy drives any more? make obsolescence obsolete.

4. Damn straight!
Why the hell are macs so freakin steep? I'd love to support a blue company and have a superior computer... but money IS a factor!

7. Since Macs use the same hardware as PCs, you bet they cost way too much.
Vista isn't that bad. My only whine is that it's a needless memory hog. But it does start up and run faster than XP in most apps.

Go to http://www.reputable.com and send them $200 for a nice used SGI Octane. Run Linux on it.

10. win 3.1 will choke on the modern hardware.
You'll probably have to install some sort of virtual machine before you try to install it, so that it thinks it's running with vanilla sorts of SVGA and sound cards, and a hard disk it can understand.

I don't have win 3.1 running, but I do have DR-DOS, an Atari 800XL with expanded memory, and a Mac SE30 running just fine on my Linux machine. I can even play old 4 MHz CGA PC-DOS stuff that refused to run on the first 286 machines.

16. Dell will sell you a system without all that extra crap installed
for an additional $49. Gives you an idea of what they receive for installing all that crippleware.

At home I run what I run at work. That used to be CP/M on an S-100 bus system. If I used a Mac at work, I'd probably own a Mac. But since I don't, I don't.

This parody advert made me laugh though:

17. Maybe try a local comp shop?
We have a place in town that makes clones (and if you want, they will import whatever components you want). They'll even mod your comp if you want. The best part is that they only put on the hardware you want on the computer (although they usually will sell primarily the latest version of windoze). When Windows 2000 and Millenium were the latest, I got them to insult Windows 98 second edition that I ALREADY OWNED and they were happy to do it.

18. Macs aren't too expensive. You can get a Mini for $599

Not too bad. Of course, a fully loaded Mac Pro is expensive, but you don't need one of those unless you edit video. And all the new ones can run both the Mac OS and Windows.

19. Dell is selling laptops preloaded with Ubuntu now - $1337
Join the Revolution!!

Open Source!!!

But if you must have your games, windows xp pro is a very capable OS, much better than the bloatware, spyware, DRM infested memory hog known as "vista".
