There's a cherry tree in the backyard of the house I moved into several months ago. I never saw any cherries on the damn thing, because the cherries are the same color as the leaves (both purple). What kind of cherries have purple-leaved trees and purple cherries with blood-red flesh?
Are they tart? Hard to chew/swallow? I've never eaten a chokecherry before... actually I'm not sure if you're even supposed to eat them.
But these are really good. I've still only had one, though. I can only reach one branch to shake and if the cherries land on the deck, they get squished.
...first by squeezing the juice onto one of my fingers and tasting that ("oh my god these are cherries!"), then by eating one. Nothing's happened to me yet... although they were a little on the over-ripe side.
