Name one cool thing about your place of employment
Ok. Day 2 of my new job. Have NO idea how i'll feel about it in a year but THIS is totally cool:

Kitchen in the office. FULLY stocked.

100% FREE

Coffee (about 10 different kinds).
Candy (about 20 different kinds).
Free sodas in the fridge.
Free cold cuts for sammies (condiments all included).
Free bread (toast/bagles/english muffins/etc....)
Pop Tarts
Cookies
Crackers
Milk & OJ
Toaster/Microwave/Oven
Veggie Trays daily

And no, no indication that anyone works much past 5:00 pm.

I've never seen anything like it.

I don't even have to pack a lunch anymore.

Yours?

6. It's a not-for-profit company providing medical care for underinsured and underserved
patients. So there are lots of liberals in my workplace! :bounce:

The CEO is a very liberal guy who always sends us e-mails updating us on the medical situation in the state and local governments. When there are ballot issues that can affect our patients, he "suggests" (nudge, nudge, wink, wink) how we might vote to impliment the best possible policy for our patients.

Going to work there was a breath of fresh air after working in a private clinic for a VERY right-wing doctor. He was pretty nice, and an excellent physician, but MAN! his politics sucked!

8. Summer hours...
:) Our regular hours are 8 AM to 5 PM M-F. The Monday after graduation in May, our hours are 9 AM to 4 PM with full pay. :D A week before classes start in the fall, we go back to 8 to 5. During breaks (fall break, spring break, Christmas) we get to come in at 9 AM.

Other perks: free access to all campus facilities, including the fitness center. :bounce: :D :woohoo: Free parking, $2.00 all-you-can-eat meals in the dining hall (although the food is questionable most of the time:P), and a nice group of people to work with. :)

19. My husband and co-workers took off half the day to play disc golf.
They regularly grill out, play fooz(?)ball when they're bored or need to get the creative streak going again. You're sick, you stay home. You need a day off, you take off. Four weeks off per year. The day starts about 9 and ends about 5 or 4:30. He wears shorts a tee shirt most days.
Takes him 10 minutes to get to work. He loves his job. :D

26. Blood donations = time off
I don't have the amazing perks some people have mentioned, but we do receive up to 3 paid days off a year for giving blood or volunteering in the community. Conveniently we have an on-site Red Cross donation center-- go to the basement, give some blood, grab a snack, and you're back to work.

pint of blood = half-day off
25 hrs. volunteering = day off

43. What company do you work for and where do I apply?
My work just updated their new attendance policy where I get a 'point' if I am over 7 minutes late, leave 7 minutes early, or need to call in for any reason <health be dammed!> And after 10 I get fired!..

I do realize the importance of staffing needs to run a successful business, however, I also do realize things like traffic, acts of god, and little flying microbes do like to rear their ugly little heads from time to time.. What I dont like is being treated like im in friggin middle school...

Im not late, I dont call in for the hell of it.. I just get pissed with the looming "you have a point" threat if I run into screwed up interstate traffic..

Sorry, didnt mean to rant.. I just dislike my company sometimes...:) <oh theres lots of other reasons I dislike my employer, this one is just the latest reason>

Although I sort of planned it that way when we moved to be near my new job.
I think that it is cool that Mr. Owner is living his dream and doing well for someone who wasn't deemed promotable at the prominent company that he started with after college.
It is also sort of cool that they employ a number of buff men. They got so buff from the heavy lifting they do as part of their job.

And I've just gotten hooked up with the ability to work from home sometimes, and discovered how much more I get done when I do. (Unfortunately, my company is run by neanderthals who likely would frown on how much I take advantage of the ability to do so if they knew. And I can count on there being at least one asshole who would narc on me.)
