SAN DIEGO - Thousands of people hoping to be the next Kelly Clarkson, Jennifer Hudson or even Sanjaya lined up outside Qualcomm Stadium on Monday as auditions for the seventh season of "American Idol" began.

Six more auditions are set in the coming weeks in Dallas; Omaha, Neb.; Atlanta; Charleston, S.C.; Miami and Philadelphia. The show returns to the air in January.

1. People are so delusional
If they think they will actually be chosen for their talent. No, they will be chosen for their entertainment value. Let's see who Simon Cowell will humiliate on national TV this time.

That show sucks.

3. It's been all over the local TV news in the last couple of days, and
they have gone through the crowd asking people to sing... I'm sorry to say that the level of talent is pretty apalling. Out of about 20 people I saw on TV yesterday and today, only one guy was able to hold a note on pitch. Probably 99% of these people are delusional, thinking they have singing talent when they really don't. Or else they are just trying to get on TV, talent or no talent. I think the show should screen people by just have then send in 30-second video clips by e-mail and then send out invitations just to the ones that show some talent.

5. PT Barnum is enjoying this
sad delusional people clamoring to be humiliated. The only thing more pathetic that the participants are the loyal viewers.

8. you can pretty much fill in any nationality after "average"

American Idol was a transplant from the UK and it seems like the ratings are pretty similar in any country this show airs in.

Kinda of hard to claim AI reflects something inferior about us when the rest of the world has their own version.

10. Adlai Stevenson was once told
"Sir there isn't a thinking man or woman in this country who isn't going to vote for you"

Adlai replied,"That's great ma'am but I need a majority"

7. Damn - I was really hoping we'd never be subjected to that schlock again...
Why do people try out? Why do people watch? (Actually, I'm sure I know the answers, but I still don't get it...)
