I was watching The Running Man last night.
It's in the running for worst action movie of the eighties.

It's got more cheese then a French... um... cheese shop.

If I've ran out of good lines, I blame this movie. It's basically set up after set up to give Swartzeneggar purposefully horrible one liners. He strangles a guy- "what a pain in the neck." He chops a guy in half- "he had to split."

It's not that I can't appreciate this sort of thing for what it's worth, but last night while watching it I couldn't help but think of the missed opportunity. They're always remaking movies, I think they should remake this one. Only they should stick to the original story that Stephen King wrote, not the movie. It was much more of a "V for Vendetta" type atmosphere than the film version of the video game "Smash TV."

1. I watched it, a few days ago, too

First time I've seen it since the '80s. What I found really interesting (quite apart from how much some of these 'reality' shows have started to converge on the film's premise) was that the two-disc DVD set includes two recent features that are scathingly critical of the way the USA is run these days: one is concerned with privacy and loss of freedoms and rights since 9/11 and the other looks at the rise of 'reality' TV and its significance and consequences. Pretty interesting.

3. There's very interesting 9-11 connections in King's version.
But I don't want to give away any spoilers.

2. But what about ...
Arnold: "I'll be back."

Richard Dawson: "Only in a rerun."

Now THAT'S classic stuff.

4. Sucked compared to the book.
But two lines that stuck out form me:

"Stop teaching the Constitution to the street punks."

"You people turned my country into a jail."
