"Traveling Wilburys" fans check in.

If you haven't seen the "The True History of the Traveling Wilburys" on the new CD/DVD release, you should. It is great. Roy Orbison steals the show (he died the year the Traveling Wilburys Part 1 was recorded). But all (George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynn) come across as guys who - unlike George Bu$h - you would really enjoy sitting down with over a beer.

BTW: Looks like the "True History" is available for download on the website.

1. Oh yeah
I bought both CD's back when they were released. I still have the big promo poster from Vol. 1 I pestered a record store owner to give me. I had it framed, and it hung for many years in my living room. It's a picture of all them assembled, with their guitars, and their names above each of them.

They're just plain fun, and it was a great way for Orbison to get some much needed new recognition in his final months. I was amazd how they avoided the pratfalls of most 'supergroups'. They broke the Blind Faith curse.

2. I've worn out several Wilburys cassettes since 1988. Thank goodness for CDs!
In 1988 I bought a 1978 Porsche 911SC. The Wilburys came with the car. Maybe that's why I like them so much.

Orbison is a plain, soft-spoken, down-to-earth enigma. But when he sings .. WOW! I'm a rabid T/W fan. I listen to the albums (mainly #1, with Roy) almost daily now. Fueling my deja vu.

BTW: The new release has a couple of "new" songs added. FWIW.

3. It is hard to believe they're nearly 20 years old
Mt first reaction when I heard about the package was "Already?" :D

Then I realized they are 'oldies' by now. Both albums have aged well, thanks in part to Orbison's operatic voice.

5. I was just thinking the same thing: Vis-a-vis George Harrison.
Wilburys was made 20 years after the Beatles peaked. Now, 20 years after T/W-1, George and Roy are gone.

4. My all time favorite CD
I was so excited when they re-released it with new stuff. I don't think I own a CD I've listened to more than the TW vol 1

6. That's All Right!
End of the Line

Chorus 1:
Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze
Well it's all right, if you live the life you please
Well it's all right, doing the best you can
Well it's all right, as long as you lend a hand

Verse 1:
You can sit around and wait for the phone to ring
Waiting for someone to tell you everything
Sit around and wonder what tomorrow will bring
Maybe a diamond ring

Chorus 2:
Well it's all right, even if they say you're wrong
Well it's all right, sometimes you gotta be strong
Well it's all right, As long as you got somewhere to lay
Well it's all right, everyday is Judgement Day

Verse 2:
Maybe somewhere down the road aways
You'll think of me, wonder where I am these days
Maybe somewhere down the road when somebody plays
Purple haze

Chorus 3:
Well it's all right, even when push comes to shove
Well it's all right, if you got someone to love
Well it's all right, everything'll work out fine
Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line

Verse 3:
Don't have to be ashamed of the car I drive
I'm glad to be here, happy to be alive
It don't matter if you're by my side
I'm satisfied

Chorus 4:
Well it's all right, even if you're old and grey
Well it's all right, you still got something to say
Well it's all right, remember to live and let live
Well it's all right, the best you can do is forgive

Chorus 5:
Well it's all right, riding around in the breeze
Well it's all right, if you live the life you please
Well it's all right, even if the sun don't shine
Well it's all right, we're going to the end of the line

11. Great segment on the "History" video on "Dirty World."
He loves your...
Electric dumplings
Red bell peppers
Fuel injection
Service charge
Five-speed gearbox
Long endurance
Quest for junk food
Big refrigerator
Trembling wilbury
Marble earrings
Porky curtains
Power steering
Bottled water
Parts and services

Dirty world, a dirty world, it's a ...ing dirty world

The "list" came from random magazine advertisements. When they practiced "Dirty World" in LA, the "trembling Wilbury" line always came around (randomly) to Roy Orbison. He handled it beautifully with full vibrato. It was a great joke on the video.
