How long did it take you to read the last Harry Potter book?
excluding breakes?

Me? About 14 hours. Read almost the whole day yesterday and Saturday late evening. Had to force myself to put the book away and go to sleep.

2. About the same as you. Fell on my face into bed close to 4 am
Now it's Mr. H's turn. As soon as he's done with it I plan to start over from page one and read much more slowly.

It is a truly satisfying finish to the series, and I have only one quibble: even though she's not part of the original Group of Three, Ginny Weasley needs to have a much more prominent role in Book 7, and I hope this oversight is rectified in the movie!

4. I agree with you
some of the main side characters didn't get much room in the last book. Ginny, Neville, Snape, McGonagall .... I wish JKR would have written more about their role.

10. Definitely
I hated to take breakes. I was on the train back to Frankfurt and hated to stop reading because the train arrived and I need to get to the subway. Same when I arrived at my station and needed to get off the subway. Both times it was a very intense situation in the story and I hated to break off my reading.

finished it Sunday night around 8:30pm

cried at the end because it's the last book in this series

hoping Rowlings continues writing along the same theme and at the same level

12. She left herself a hole to write more
on the one side she finished it with the epilogue, on the other side she still can write about what happened after Voldemort died. Maybe she can concentrate on other figures in her next novels.

17. My husband and I are listening to the audio book on CD...
we are on Chapter 14 at present. I LOVE Jim Dale's voice acting. It's superb. And I get to truly indulge in Rowling's world.

21. I took about 15 hours
I thought I was reading fast, but then I hear all these people who read it in 6-7 hours! Boy do I feel like a slacker. I read about 8 hours on Saturday, and then stayed up all night Saturday night into sunday, and finally went to bed about 5am.

22. I dunno -
it came at 1:30 pm on Saturday - as I was leaving to take the dogs to the groomers, run some errands. Argued with NSSO (not-so-significant other. Can't wait to refer to him as STBE!) (just insert this into every other item as you go, btw.)

Vacuuumed house. Picked up dogs. Did grocery shopping. Fixed dinner. Cleaned kitchen.

Started reading FINALLY - at about 8:30 at night. An hour? Two? maybe. Then get the younger one ready for bed. Got up about 12:30 prized HP book from oldest kids hands (who was asleep) and turned off his light.

I read til about 2:30 am

Next day - TRIED to read - NSSO had PROMISED to take younger son ALL WEEKEND so OLDER SON and I could have a marathon HP reading weekend. But nooooooooooo -

More house work. Laundry. picking up rocks (don't ask) thanking the neighbor for digging up dead shrubs. Fought with NSSO about said digging up of dead shrubs (they just needed a bit of pruning, doncha know.)

Took younger son to see friends play soccer. Cleaned some more. Did more laundry. Cooked more meals. Cleaned more kitchens. Fed dogs. Let dogs in/out infinitum. Took out garbage and recycling.

Kept TRYING to read in between it all..... but I'd rather not read at all than keep getting friggin interrupted.

THEN NSSO wants to "come over and sit and read with us" :WTF: He's reading something else, never read any HP. The younger of course keep coming in to chat - so f that. NSSO gets mad because we don't want him to sit and read with us.

Older one was done. Under threat of DEATH was told NOT to divulge ending. GO TO YOUR ROOM AND DON"T TALK TO ME! Don't even LOOK AT ME!!!!

No reading again until they're all in bed.

Didn't get to read until about 11:00?? Read until 2:30 am - HAD to go to sleep 'cause had to get kids up for camp, etc.

Camps. Doctor. Camp. Store. Errands. Camp. Finally, finally finally had about an hour to finish up the last 75 pages. You know how hard that was to wait for the ending????????

So I have no idea how long I actually got to "read".

23. I'm taking my time
I'm almost to page 400. I don't want to be done with the final book right away, and I will savor it. I've overheard some spoilers accidentally, but it won't ruin the experience.
