Could I sue my local bookstore for discrimination?
People in New York will be able to buy -- and read -- the new Harry Potter book a good three hours before I am allowed to do the same. Could I sue my local bookstore (a chain like Barnes & Noble or B. Dalton, of course; I would never do this to an independently owned book shop) for discrimination on the grounds of place of residence? If they are selling the same book in New York at 9:00 pm Pacific Time, certainly I have a right to buy it here at 9:pm Pacific Time.

Then again, if I target a chain with stores in London....

1. A law suit might get you acces to a book earlier, but
it would do nothing to bring attention to the inherrent injustice.

If you were to stand in a Barnes and Noble, douse yourself with gasoline and set yourself on fire, that would get lots of press coverage.

2. Nope...you're free to travel. Nobody's discriminating based on residence.
Now, if the Barnes & Noble in New York refused to sell to you based on your Seattle residence, then you may have a case.

:D

3. I'm not a lawyer, but yes, yes you can.
You can sue your bookstore for not providing you with pixie dust and free giraffe rides if you wanted to, of course the judge is just going to throw that case right the fuck out.

4. You can sue anyone for anything.
Whether you'll win is another thing altogether.
