3. You need some accent marks in there...
to really differentiate the sounds more. I picked two because I THINK that's my pronunciation.

18. Yeah...
but first I'd have to figure out how to make the little accent marks. I know how to do them in Word, but...

29. No, I mean...
just put an apostrophe where the accent is. You can do it on your keyboard. Like a dictionary does it.

Like Pe-kahn'

Or PEE'-kan

Like that. See?

:-)

6. It depends if you're from rural south or iffin you're a city folk.
If y'all are from high society y'all call 'em ~ P'kahns.
Out on the farm ... it's more like Pee-kahn.

8. Hmm. Odd. I'm a deep south rural redneck, and I've always said p'kahn.
Maybe it's 'cause my parents were raised in New Orleans? Seems like most people I knew said it the way I did.

21. I think that might be part of my problem.
I'm an army brat...so I've lived in Maryland and Alabama and Washington state and California and Texas and...

everyone says it differently. I don't even know if I say 'soda' or 'pop' (I usually cheat and defer to the specific name of the beverage. "Would you please bring me a Dr. Pepper?").

I hate when I get stuck on something STUPID like this and can't let it go.

30. That's another aspect.
Gulfport, where I grew up, is sandwiched between a large Air Force base, a SeaBee base, a national guard camp, and several government research facilities, and was a minor tourist area for New Orleans, Baton Rouge, and Jackson. So there was a mix of cultures and accents. Where I grew up was just north of the cosmopolitan area and just south of the extreme rural rest of Mississippi, so I got both, and could move easily between the groups. Plus, my mother was from New Orleans, and her father still had a slight German accent. Then I married an Air Force brat. So maybe I'm not typical.

20. That's just it...
I don't know HOW I pronounce it. It just kinda spills out and I don't think about it.

This morning, I made the mistake of thinking about it. And the more I thought about it...you know the rest.

13. I've been
- baseball practices

- baseball games

- work

- cleaning and then

- entertaining out-of-town guests for

- my neice's shower

- neice's bachelorette party

- neice's wedding rehearsal

- neice's wedding

- car dealerships

- in the driveway, beating the steering column of the new (to me) car, and

- wondering if the local nut-house accepts reservations for those nifty little rooms with the padding on the walls and if straight-jackets are 'one size fits all'

So that would be the correct pronunciation? What if you're in northern or southern or western Massachusetts?

God, it's all so confusing.
