I have two dogs...Tinker who is 3 and Shelta who is just turning one. I live in the country. This morning I let them both out and a few minutes later heard a high pitched yelp which could only mean trouble. I went outside and called them. Tinker can right along but no sign of the puppy. I called again and there came Shelta, staggering, reeling, falling down, sniffing at her right haunch. She stopped, gave me the hang dog look and then started staggering and reeling again. I got her in the house and she immediately laid down. She would not let me near her. I called the vet in a panic. I figured she had been bitten. The vet told me to bring her right in so I approached the puppy to try to pick her up and discovered that she had put her front right leg through her collar and was basically choking herself to death. Now this was a decent collar but the two dogs pull on eachothers collars and hers had gotten stretched...enough to be a real hazard.
I learned a real valuable lesson today and the poor little pup has been glued to my hip since this morning!
