Atlanta DUers! Come check out my band tomorrow night!
Hey there! My lil' rockin' teenage combo, The 8th Grade, is playing Wednesday night at Ten High in Atlanta, opening for Corduroy. Come on down, and introduce yourselves! We'll be on stage sometime 'round 9:30 or so. Oh, and mention DU at the door and be rewarded with a blank stare from the bouncer! I keed.

We'll be leaving Nashville at about noon tomorrow, and get there at about 4 or 5, and would appreciate any hospitality you'd care to impart, whether it be a hello or a holla. Look forward to more entertainment than you can handle!

1. do you ever play in Texas?
I'd go see you if I could! I'm in the Houston area, but I have friends in other metros. I could arrange visits around a show date if you ever had plans to visit this neck o the woods.

2. No.
Of course, I'm not anywhere near Atlanta, so I couldn't even if I wanted to.

I'll watch ya play in Chi-town sometime, so long as you feed me enough bread (of the liquid variety).

4. Well, once I get up to Chitown, I'm gonna need to find a band to play with
I'm a drummer, a bass player, a guitarist too. I can do lots of things (but I want to play drums most of all)....Do you have a band?

5. Unfortunately, I have no band.
I do, however, have a bunch of guitars, a bass, a drum set, some mics, and a four-track in my basement. I'm a one-man band!

6. There are Chicago DU musicians.
I think some of them have bands as well. Talk to XNASA, he'd know. I think The Professor has a band, too.

9. I'd move there in a heartbeat.
I visited there in Oct. 2002 - met some of the DU crew. All good folks! I loved Chicago - gotta go back!

7. Wow. I can't believe I'm talking to Prince!
I just LOVED "The Beautiful Experience," man.

Well, we should get something going then, seeing as we're both one-man bands. I got a digital eight-track recorder, a bass amp, a bass, an acoustic guitar, a drum set, some mikes, lots of pedals and outboard gear.....Do you sing? No matter, damn, we'd RULE Chicago with our manly musical muscle 'n' might! Hail Caesar!

12. There are EIGHT tracks now?
;)

Well, Luddite that I am, I did finally upgrade to digital. There was too much hiss in the analog recoders in my price range. Thankfully, on my lastest collection, I have abandoned the trusty Alesis SR-16 in favor of my own live "drumming."

It sounds better, even though I lack the coordination to use my feet whilst playing drum.

Also, I've no bass amp. Screw it, I say!

Well then, yes. Our merged talents (or, perhaps, your talent and my enthusiasm) would threatend the very fabric of the "Chicago Scene." And I do sing, albeit more Billy Childish than Marian Anderson in vocal sweetness.

I should send you a copy of the new album -- featuring an 8-minute epic ballad about the Great Xenia Tornado of 1974, and a closing number that tells the story of Methods of Mayhem metal-rapper (and Springfield, OH native) TiLo.

13. Oh, before we get carried away...
Just to see if we are tuly on the same musical page (perhaps it's a Pisces/Rabbit thing?):

Which is my favorite Velvet Underground album? I don't care which one you like, which is my favorite? Nobody ever gets this one right.

1) The Velvet Underground and Nico
2) White Light/White Heat
3) The Velvet Underground
4) Loaded

21. That's my second-favorite.
I like side 2.

My favorite is their eponymous third album. Do I actually think it's BETTER than WL/WH? I don't know. But is IS the most underrated VU album (w/Nico being the most overrated), and I choose to give it some love.

11. Not at all.
We think we suck too. Our music is actaully us heckling our instruments.

14. Too far. But I have to tell you I love the name!
"The eighth grade". Not too many phrases evoke such a variety of memories and feelings for me..... and just a whole (fairly embarrassing) way of thinking. Ah to be a hormone-drenched voice-modulating youngin' again.......
:hi:

15. Cool For U!
And GOPisEvil is right, both XNASA and i are in bands.

The Bass Player. Just like in "That Thing You Do", where the bass player's name in the credits is "T.B. Player".

Personally, since bass is my 3rd instrument, i'm only A bass player, not THE bass player.

16. Come to Morgantown, WV...
we need all the musical help we can get around here. All the really good bands that were based here have either left or broken up (Karma to Burn, fer example).

18. Nah, it sucked.
We had a good time, and the trip was enjoyable, but the onstage mix was weak, my lead singer screwed up a few songs, false-started one tune..... and 45 or so people came for the first band, then 30 of them left after our third song. Sold a lot of CD's....And we didn't get paid very much.

Oh, and the headliners, PPR, were AWESOME! They were this insane-sounding DNA/Trumans Water/early Meat Puppets/Naked City- spawned power trio with No Wave/Hardcore spazzouts, gallows humor, and New Orleans R&B influences (no joke!) Fantastic group. Totally unlike our band, who are more in the Ben Folds Five/Elvis Costello/Ted Leo vein, but fantastic nonetheless....

All in all, a good time, I suppose. (I just woke up...it's 1:00 pm....auuuughhhhh)
