Paul Potts - WOW, brought tears to my eyes
Paul Potts http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_5W4t_CBzg&mode=related&search

He's a finalist on England's version of Idol. You may not be an opera fan, but this guy's voice will knock your socks off and bring tears to your eyes...

all I can say is Pavarotti - move over

8. He has a fine voice , but fine voice does not a great tenor make...
Edited on Tue Jun-26-07 01:12 PM by UndertheOcean
Listen to youtube samples with Pavarotti and Domingo and compare.

what struck me is how weak his voice was , a below average tenor can easily fill up with his voice a T.V. studio .. WITHOUT A MIKE !

Sure , he will make some popular CD's that will appeal to opera naive listeners , but he's definitely not of Metropolitan or Covent Garden caliber.

10. I was moved by this video, but then I realized... he sucks
Technically, he has absolutely nothing on the really good tenors--his high notes are weak, off-key and straining. As for being moved, I later realized it was mostly the camera moves, the judge appraisal/response, the audience response, and of course the very dramatic Puccini aria. After watching the video, I went to read through the comments, and it turns out this guy is no amateur (though not a professional), since he has had master classes in Italy, has performed with the Royal Phil, done opera before in a lead role, etc. So after feeling very manipulated by the emotional trickery of talent show TV, and playing his version (audio-only) against versions by Mario Del Monaco, Pavarotti and Franco Corelli, I am secure in the idea that his best chance is to be a half-talent popster, somewhere around or below the order of Andrea Bocelli, for example.

It's a very emotional video, but the next Pavarotti this guy is not, nor will ever be. It's perfectly enjoyable for what it is, though!

11. He's kind of like that Andrea Bocelli Guy
More Story than Ability. That having been said, he sings a little better than I.
