I need tech support. Printer problems. Help.
Windows XP

Just survived a pretty bad virus scare. Now I go to use the printer and I get a message that its not connected. Its connected.

So I go to Control Panel to reinstall the thing. When I click on anything to do with the printer, it just hangs there forever. Can't uninstall. Can't reinstall. Can't do anything.

Fortunately, I don't have hair, or I would have pulled it all out.

Help.

1. Control panel, printers and other hardware
View installed.

What's your default printer? Is it correct?

3. Answers
My default printer is a Dell All-In-One 922. Never had a day's trouble with it until I used several programs to kill the viruses.

Tried to go to view installed. Just an hour glass is all I get.

Went to uninstall programs. Tried to uninstall it. Just an hour glass.

2. What kind of printer? (Brand and model)
Have you tried a different USB port yet? Is the printer plugged into the wall, do the lights on the printer turn on? Tried restarting the computer?

All of that sounds simple and stupid, but you would be amazed.

4. Actually, I did try that
I thought the CPU would ask me to install new hardware. No such luck.

Its a Dell All-In-One 922 printer.

Tried to go to view installed. Just an hour glass is all I get.

Went to uninstall programs. Tried to uninstall it. Just an hour glass.

At this point, I am sick of it. But I need to use my printer for business.

Go to START
Click Run
Type in sfc /scannow

Notice the space between sfc and /

This starts the sfc (system file check)

6. I have a problem, too
Canon Pixma MP500. I took the paper tray under the printer out and cannot get it to go back in. There is this plastic cover which goes over the tray that I CANNOT get to fit anywhere on the tray. I have tried for at least a half hour various combinations. I emailed tech support but they didn't help. I don't know if the error message is due to something in addition to this but I'd like to at least eliminate it as a possibility!
