How about some random facts about your pets and/or children
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 12:54 PM by LynneSin
Hopefully this will qualify most of DU. If you have neither - then I suppose you could post a random fact about a random person you know.

Here are random facts about my cat Abbie:

  • He refuses to sit on my lap. He'll sit next to me or by my feet, but I've tried to get him to sit on my lap and he's just not interested.
  • Abbott is part dog. He greets me when I come home and his tail will be wagging. He expects me to pick him up so he can lick my face.
  • Abbie actually pets me. He'll take the pad of his paw and stroke my face like he's petting me. However, one time when I jerked my head so I could answer my cell phone, his one claw dug in right underneath my right eye. I have a tiny scar there now.

How about some of your random facts

2. Re:my demanding Border Collie
Misty is the most demanding animal I've ever met.

If the water bowl is empty, it gets flipped across the floor.

If it's time for dinner, the dinner bowl gets carried into the computer room and dropped at my feet along with a scolding bark.

But she can be unbearably cute, offering her paw or licking your cheek and she is intensely loyal

3. I have to many! 4 kids and 3 pets!
Edited on Tue Jan-20-04 12:55 PM by lovedems
We have a border collie "pepper" that we rescued. She gives hugs, honestly! She puts her two front legs around your neck or waist and snuggles right in. She is an awesome frisbee dog which is a delight for our 4 boys. Edit: they say border collies know when they have been rescued and will treat you with love and respect for the rest of their lives. She does!

Our cat "disco" is a stalker. He stalks every member of our family and attacks legs. He is very loveable but likes to start shit. He and the dog are great friends. They wrestle.

Our Cockatiel "Holly" is just a bitch. Nothing else to say.

4 boys 7,6,5,&3 and they want a pet hedgehog now. This is after our 3 year old killed all of our fish by over feeding them.

Our boys are terrific, good students, all look alike, tow heads, boy energy but love to "cuddle". They are very polite to people, offering to hold doors open for the elderly, saying please and thank you, and will actually interact with girls at school. They don't have that "Eww, girls are gross" attitude that alot of their friends seem to have.

5. My snakes
My snakes really want to get together for some whoopie right now, but they're in separate cages across the room from each other. A few weeks ago, he was out at all hours, climbing the walls, trying to get to the female he can smell. Now, she's doing it. It tires me out just to watch her.

Poor babies.

At one time I had 2 boa constrictors. Snakes make fasinating pets. Plus, they don't bark or mess on the carpet and they don't have to be fed daily.

6. My cat Max is an uninhibited extravert ...
everyone in the neighborhood knows him because he walks into people's homes and walks around like it's his own. He'll jump on their laps and purr himself to sleep, etc.

I've met all the new neighbors because they all comment about this big white cat who walked into my apartment.

9. All cats, all the time
I found my cat Winston at a hospital I used to work at. At one time, my sister lived across the street from the same hospital, and she found a cat there too. She still has him.

Winston has to be held like a baby as he is very needy. He may have been weaned too young. He is all blond and looks like a maneless lion.

Esme came to my door when I was living in the city. I took her to the vet and the vet shaved her stomach to see if she had been fixed. There was a huge tattoo on her stomach, three numbers and three letters. We decided she was probably a lab cat. Poor thing. She is very skittish and cries a lot.

15. long story short
The children in the family from which I adopted the boys had named all the kittens (all males) after talk show hosts. Harry was Montel Williams and Richard was Richard Bey. I didn't want to keep those names, so I decided to watch them for a while and see what names would come to me, rather than trying to name them instantly.

At the time I was reading David McCullough's Truman. Harry is gray, and the drawing of Truman on the jacket shows him w/ that close-cropped steel-gray hair, so I started thinking of the kitten as Harry Truman. At around the same time, Richard Nixon died, and since I'd kinda already been thinking the little brown stripey boy looked like a Richard, I named him Nixon. Further rationale? Umm.... Nixon was a Californian....

We just call them Harry & Richard.

18. Dog lovers? I need a little help...
My 75-year-old father lives alone with a five-year-old female German Shepard. Recently, dad has been quite ill, and in the hospital. He will no longer be able to care for the dog, named Heidi, and my sister and I need to find her a good home (Dad lives in Pittsburgh). Neither my sis nor I can take her, alas. We have tried putting her up for adoption, but things haven't worked out. We have put the word out to friends and others--including vets, the Pennsylvania State police (they sometimes take Shepards), and eveyone else we can think of. We've done on-line research into adoption agencies and no-kill shelters. So far, nothing. (Our efforts have been going on for months.)

If any of you good people out there have any suggestions re: agencies, etc., it would be most appreciated. Thanks!

23. My rescue budgie's story parallels Anne Hjelle's;
was in a cat's mouth when discovered, released only when cat was hit on head with objects (lemons in this case, though), and in the same locale. However, no bicycles were involved...
Now he's getting in on the ceaseless power struggles among our other budgies.

24. my dog mabel...
she's a 6 month old rottweiler/lab mix and she was abandoned out in the middle of nowhere in texas. my dad took her in briefly but was going to shoot her (he's republican) because she chewed through an extension cord and barked at coyotes. she's too damn cute, so i drove her all the way back from kaufman texas to denver.

- she's the mellowest dog ever.
- she doesn't bark
- she doesn't dig in the trash
- she's already housebroken

the only thing is is that she requires CONSTANT attention. but like i said, she's too damn cute, so i continually pet her. the spoiled shit.

27. Once, when my 16 year old was about 2
he woke up crying in the middle of the night. I thought he'd had a bad dream, so I comforted him, then went into the bathroom to get him a drink of water. Not bothering to turn on the light, I noticed an odd flickering light through the window shade. Curious, I pulled the shade aside to look out the window, and saw a huge flame shooting up the side of my next door neighbor's house. She was in her 80s, and not in the greatest health, so I was worried.

Of course, I dialed 911 right away. Then I banged on her door, figuring she was probably asleep...but I received no answer. The firemen got her out when they arrived; and fortunately, she only suffered minor smoke inhalation.

If my son hadn't awakened, she might have died...and our house might have caught fire as well!

-Is an avid political activist already, which is very cool considering the school she attends.
-Is the light of my life.

James:

-is the baby they told us we could never have (don't give up ever anyone)
-was born almost a month premature and still tipped the scales at 8 pounds 12 ounces.
-Is the light of my life.

Merlin/cat:

-Currently tips the scales at 29 pounds.
-has the smallest paws I have ever seen on a full grown cat.
-loves lying on his back in the sink and letting the water drip on his belly.

Jessie/Dog:

-She is a Shetland Sheepdog.
-She should have been named Chewie (Chewbacca)for this silly little grunting/talking noise she makes when we pet her.
-wants in when she's out/wants out when she's in.
-wouldn't protect our family from anything, but we love her just the same.

:hi:

31. 2 dogs, 1 cat
The cat likes to be outside but when I bring him in he sleeps with me or on my lap.

2 dogs, Bella is a Husky female with 2 blue eyes, about 40 lbs, lies me to chase her and let her chase me and wakes me up with a tap on my shoulder. She woke me up once when my sugar was really low. Saved my life i assume cause I felt like crap.

Misty is my 70 lb female black lab/vizla mix. She likes me to try to steal her toys and play tug of war. She also picks the dog dish up and runs to the family room when it's empty. She sleeps with me also.

You can imagine 3 animals and me on a twin size bed. Not much room.
Good thing I'm thin.

32. 4 boys, 4 dogs
My boys...

Anthony, 15 years old and in the 10th grade. He works with my husband doing web design and just got his drivers permit (shiver).

Steven, 13 years old and in the 8th grade. He is the kind of kid that takes anything and everything apart just to see how it works. He is also big into beta-testing software. I think he's won the world record for formats on his computer.

David, 10 years old and in the 4th grade. David is my quiet child....most of the time unless Steven is picking on him. He is an animal freak and if we let him would throw us all out and fill the house with every creature he could.

Sammy, 5 years old. He starts school in August. I fear him going to school. I know that I am going to get a call from the teacher everyday for the rest of my life. Sammy loves life. That says it all.

My other children...

Zoe, my border collie. I love her but my god the dog is a schizo. Her purpose in life is to create a trench around the fence-line of our entire property. When it rains, it looks like we have a moat.

Murphy, my jack russell. Murph showed up at our door one day and never left. We drove around and asked but no one knew who we belonged to. We took him to the vets only to find out he had heart-worm. The vets wanted $500 to treat him and we could not afford it. I was heartbroken because I had fallen in love with him. Thanks to the humane society. They worked with us to get his heart-worm treatment done at a low cost to us. He almost died from the treatment. I spoon-fed him homemade chicken soup for 2 weeks until he could eat on his own. He is such a baby but I love him so much.

And last but not least...Toby and Cookie (aka cookie-pie to me). Zoe and Murphy's pups (border-jacks). They are now 3 months old and my babies. Cookie-pie looks like a border collie and Toby looks like a jack. They are total monsters. It is totally amazing to me how fast these dogs are already!

Whew! There's a short story.

(male neutered cat).......... has a loving, sexual relationship with Hunter, a male, neutered Golden Retriever. Chunkie Pie behaves like a female cat in heat........rolls around in front of the dog, raises his little striped butt right in the dog's face, and the dog happily obliges with a whole lotta humpin'.
