Had my 50 yr physical - good and bad news
The good news:
PSA - normal
C-reactive protein - normal
Rheumatoid factor - normal
EKG - normal

The bad news:
Blood sugar slightly elevated, 2 points above normal
Cholesterol elevated
Those I can work on. Going to start back on my exercise routine and I'm targeting losing 10lbs in 10weeks.
Blood in urine - Got to make an appt with the urologist

The worst news. The doc gave me a slip to get a colonoscopy.

1. Of the bad news, one stands out...
Blood in the urine is NEVER normal. Odd that this should come up today. I had blood in my urine 2 years and 2 weeks ago. It was found to be kidney cancer. Today marks the 2 year anniversary of my nephrectomy, I'm a one kidney wonder now!! Do not delay making your appointment. Depending on the severity of the bleeding, amount of blood, you might expect to have an IVP, urine cytology, and a cystoscopy.

so don't delay, and lets hope it is something less severe

4. My wife is already on me about it
She's in cancer research and knows all the problems this can be a sign of.

I'm making the call now.

5. did doctor try to get you to take
cholesterol lowering drugs?

Mine did last time I went and my cholesterol was only a tiny bit higher that "normal" I said no thanks to a prescription. They keep lowering the numbers so soon everyone will be on cholesterol medication..... and statins can be cancer causing....... no thanks. I'll just watch what I eat, etc. I hate when the doctor's first line of action is to prescribe drugs. I got mad at him.

Ha ha - I just turned 50 too and my gyn gave me a slip to get a colonoscopy too. I think I'll wait on that one too.....

Hope everythings okay with you though.

9. Bravo seemunkee. Cholesterol meds killed my dad. I urge everyone to avoid them
unless absolutely necessary.

11. My STBE has been on cholesterol med for ten years,
after regular exercise and a virtually fat-free diet for twelve months lowered his cholesterol from 302 onlyl to 280. You have every reason to distrust the statins, I know. But C would be dead without them... he had two heart attacks by the time he was forty. He's now 53 and hasn't had one since he was put on the drugs. One must balance the serious risks with the seriousness of the disease. :hi:

13. I would be concerned if I had other indicators
but I don't smoke, drink moderately, exercise, not obese, no family history.

18. I take 3000 mg
garlic daily and my cholesterol, both good and bad, are perfect. You can get no-odor garlic but I figure if I (or everyone else) can't smell it, it isn't working  Of course, I take it at night and the odor has dissipated by morning.

16. Doc put me on Lipitor a coupla years ago
Let me tell you, it dropped that cholesterol like a rock, into the low end of normal. Unfortunately, it also dropped ME like a rock, it totally screwed my back up somehow. So I went off it, and it's been a very slow recovery. How do we know it was the Lipitor? After being off it for a while, my back was getting better, and Dr. L. and I thought that maybe it wasn't to blame. So, she gave me some more, and within a few days I was nearly back to square one. So, although we don't know the mechanism involved, there's no doubt that Lipitor buggered me up but good. I gave the rest of my Rx to a friend. Doing Ezetrol now, also working well.

I just had my 49 yr. physical, and while I'm not getting a colonoscopy, I was treated to the next best thing. Whoo!!

10. Those are pretty good results except for the blood in urine.
I'm sending good vibes for it to be nothing more than some kind of inflammation. As for the colonoscopy, don't worry. You deal with the worst part in the privacy of your own home, and that makes it not bad at all.

12. seemunkee...
Two things...

I have had frequent bouts of hematuria (blood in urine) for 5 years. I have been scoped 5 times, had millions of tests, and had several cancer screenings run on my urine. While several things were determined from these tests, nothing was found that was cause the gross bleeding. I am telling you this because I don't want you to automatically think "cancer". As you know, many many things can cause this bleeding, and a very likely cause is the passing of a stone that you were completely unaware of. Note: Not trying to offer medical advice here, just a little reassurance.

Secondly, don't worry about the colonoscopy...they are a piece of cake, and I mean that. The worse part is the prep the night before, and if you mentally prepare for it, even that is easy.

good luck.

14. Thanks
I have a very mild form of Ehlers-Danlos(connective tissue disorder) and bruise easily. I think this may have something to do with it but need to check out all possiblities.

15. Don't go to doctors! They always want to find something wrong!
I got my finger fixed today, and they still wanted to do all that stethoscope / hook me up to the sensors / "let's find something else wrong" stuff...stay AWAY from those people, and you'll live forever.

17. I'm not rubbing this in
It's nice to be in Canada; the docs have no reason to find lots of things wrong with you. Now, if only it extended to car repair.
